Unhappy 85 LT250R No Spark! Help!

I recently bought a LT250r, but i have no spark. After checking the blue wire coming from stator it won't light up a test light. Does this mean i need a source coil? After taking off magneto... the source coil seems to have a little bit of the wrapping knicked off somehow, would that be a problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Im not sure of the specs on that but if you have a Volt meter every part can be checked using the Ohm setting. The motor wont have any current till its in motion thats why your light won't come on....

Well, if any part of those copper windings is broken, burnt, whatever, you can pretty much count on the stator being bad.

i had a similar problem with mine when i was first going to start it up after i put it together. no spark, so i put my other coil on and then there was spark. started right up!!! i recomend getting another coil. pretty cheap on ebay, even if the problem is the stator, its always good to have spare parts.
