Help with 87 quadracer

To start i really dont know much about 2-strokes. But heres the problem my quad will fall on its face untill i get to 3rd gear then it screams I put carbon fiber reeds that didnt help.the only thing done to this machine is a fmf silencer the jetting is stock i think 240 main and 37.5 pilot i cleaned the carb repacked the silencer.I did however readjust the fuel air screw and it helped a little but i had to adjust it to atleast 3 turns out my power valve is working or at least moving my plug never fouls it doesnt even look like it burnt i run 40:1. Any help would be appreciated.

Go up a few jets in the carburetor

This may be a stupid question are you talking about main or pilot

My 250 is .40 over and ported and it has a 280 or 290 main jet(can't remember). If at 1/4 throttle, does it feel responsive? If you have any work done to it you may need to go up on the main jet like ltracer said. If it doesn't kick back or idle high leave the idle jet alone. Try that and see if it works. -Mark

Last nite i rebuilt the carb and replaced the pilot jet (i went up a few sizes to a 45) i put my fmf fatty pipe on and now this thing kicks ass ever since i bought it it has never felt like this as far as the engine i think its still stock but now when i hit the throttle it will burn the tires and i have itp mudlites brand new im going out to do plug test now. Thanx for the help

i musta missed this thread somehow til now. anyway problems idle-1/4 throttle are a pilot issue and 3/4-WOT problems are main jet issues

sounds like a lean needle clip position to me if its hesitateting in mid then opens up all a sudden .drop that clip down 2 sizes (2 clip slots) toward the sharp needle end
and check that for midrange hesitation!

Everything is just sweet i can't believe the difference the only thing left to do is the idle but thats easy i did however foul the plug but i mixed the gas with too much oil when it was running like shit just because i didnt want to blow it up Thanx to everyone for their help it is wicked fast now
