Question on wrist pin & connecting rod

When rebuilding the engine in my 85 lt250r, I took the top end off and when I removed the connecting rod to take the piston off, I noticed that there was two washers (looked like thrust washers) on eather side of the pin bearing on the connecting rod, on the inside of the piston. I this normal?

quick question, what makes a thrust washer? how its designed or what??

I am not 100% sure, but I think on thrust washers the sides of them have been machined to a certain tolerance so the rod does not have too much slop form side to side. Also they have a little groove on the bearing side to keep them in place.

I would highly recommend replacing the thrust washers when doing the topend. I have seen many destroyed cases from the washers breaking & getting wedged between the crank & the case.

Thats how my engine blew the Thrust washer (by the pin bearring) broke in half and bounced around in the crank case, only to get bounced back up and lodged into to the cylender wall and head. hahahaha I Love Rebuilds!!!!
