Default RM 265kit, questions

I just recieved my piston and cylinder back from Eric Gorr(great guy and does great work) and have put it all back together. I chose the low to mid powerband and pump gas. I just have a few questions. Since I picked low to mid powerband does that mean that I actually lost the top end? The only reason I ask this is because my friend has a 07 yzf250r and he can smoke me now(when I had the stock motor in there I could stay right next to him the entire way, and it had over 100hrs on the top end)...

I think I am going to do a leakdown test but I am just a little confused

I am currently trying to get it jetted correctly. Any help on this would be appreciated...

Stock exhaust and intake with 265 kit....

Thats a tough question with little info to go off. What carb is on it? What are the jets in the carb now? What is the bike doing when you get in the top end

Basically it is a 2000 with a stock carb(not sure about stock jetting)...The bottom of the powerband is good, and when I get to the middle or top of the powerband it doesnt get any stronger at all, I can go faster shifting at the very bottom of the RPM range....It just doesnt seem right....

I am sorry, I do not have the actual specs of the carb (jet numbers). I will write them down this afternoon....

The plug looks like it has some carbon buildup(not super clean) but it is a light grey color....

I know that the motor has a compression 120psi....

One other question, the crankcase/tranny has to be air tight right for the bike to run properly, correct? That is what a leakdown test is supposed to confirm..?

Well 120 compression is no good should be in the 160-170 range. Are you sure you held the throttle wide open while you kicked to get that number. What I meant about it running in the top end was, does it cut out and smoke a litte more or is it popping through the exauhst. If so those are jetting issues. If your comp really is only 120 (which makes no sense on a fresh motor) that probably is the problem.

Do you have a aftermarket head gasket on it. If so is it thicker than the stock gaskets?

If you had an air leak, it would rev to the moon as soon as you started it

No aftermarket head gasket...All I know is that eric had to bore out the head a little to lower compression.....for the pump gas......

It does not smoke anymore at the top end, it actually seems to run fairly smooth at the top end, just not much power....

I take it you had Eric do some port work, if this is so & you haven't jetted since this could be your problem. If the engine is moving more air thru it, then when you get into the topend you may be starving it a little. I would do a plug check.
