Heard blaster front shocks work on 87+. 86 rm250 cylinder and head work also. RM head coolant tube is on opposite side and plug is angled and I think has more cc's and compression with less squish. YZ piston can be modded to fit so thrust washers can be eliminated.

good info. i was given a 88 lt250r today for my 250/500 hybrid project. it is in need of a few things, and has several x-tra's so hopefully i can sell/trade some stuff. unsure yet if i will do the swap with this thing, or make it running the way it is. i can try swapping stuff if anyone wants. 88 lt250r or 87 lt500r. i have both

It's interesting that a blaster shock will swap out, but that seems a downgrade in suspension. The LT250/500 has far superior shocks to the Blaster. As well, a higher CC head will result in lower compression by having more volume to compress.

the blaster shocks are way too wide.they are not a direct bolt on at all.they must be ground alot narrower.they are also 1in. shorter.

So dont use blaster shocks -what do i know? I know my 16 year old shocks work but not that great so I was looking for opinions on a swap. Anyway I believe the RM250 head is 26cc and the stock is 24cc but i could be wrong. So yes the compression would be lower if it is bigger. I have an old magazine article about a mx race setup on a LT and the 86 RM head was used "for better cooling".

The LT500R motor into a LT250R frame was a common swap back in the day. You just have to fab motor mounts and I personally would not use a head stay (heard the motor twist blows base gaskets especially on 87 in stock frame). Then you have to figure out a pipe or have one made. Then there is sprocket alignment? Are kicker and shifter the same? Um intake boot is angled on 87 500 so use 87 250 straight intake or no airbox and Pod filter?

do you mean 86-87 rm250? because those work on the 87 lt250 and lt500. but the intake boot is different.

Default v force cage pic 96 rm

No I am looking a pictures of 96-97 Rm intakes like Boyeseen they are angled but they have the five bolt pattern. The V force reed cage pic is the same. The cage (i have both) and boot from like 81-86 Rms fit and the boots are not angled.

When bidding starts at $5 for Vforce2 cage you start to wonder about possibilities, but wait if i used some common sense thought about it -it probably is too small.

*UPDATE* 96-97 RM reed cage and boot are too small and do not work.

gh500 is on a distinguished road

ok lets set the record straight
1) lt250's have 2 rod length's 85-86 & 87-92 (128mm)
lt500's 87-90 have 143mm rod
2) a-arms do not interchange 85-92 the 85-86 are the same & 87-90 are the same
3) swing arms interchange 85-90 85-86 had the round carrier 87-90 had the box style & the carrier is the same all the way to 92
4) plastic will interchange 85-90 the 91-92 plastic mounted slightly diffrent bit can be made to work
5) lt250 & lt500 intakes on the 87-90 do not interchange the lt250's have a straight boot the lt500's angle while we are on intakes 87 is a year by it's self it has 5 bolts the hold it & has 8 pedal reed cage the 88-90 are 6 bolt with 6 pedal reeds the reed cages will interchange lt250 & 500
6)power valve actuator is the same but not the rod & the govenor is not the same
7) flywheels are the same lt250 & 500 but the factory stators on the 85-86 dont have the cut out for the counter balance shaft on the 87up but the coils are all the same so you can use you old plate
8) while in ignition cdi boxes lt250 & 500 ARE NOT the same lt250's have 6deg of timing advance from 1200-9000 the 500's have 2 diffrent boxes the 87-88 have 11 deg of advance from 1200-5500 & the 88-90 have 8 deg of advance from 1200-5500
9) front & rear brakes interchange on lt250,lt500,lt230,several others
10) waterpump bearing is the same on the lt250 & 500 also the seal but the impeller's are not the same
11) yes you can use a yz 250 piston to get rid of the thrust washers but you need to deck the cyl 1mm (.040) which advances the port timing good thing on a stock cyl if you have a ported one you better do some math ! & the cyl needs to be 1mm over to start with & the bores go to 3mm over (suzuki size)
also you can get a 69.7mm piston froma polaris watercraft to get 1 more bore after the .080 stock oversize

yes a lt500 motor will fit in a 250 frame with a couple of mods & a custom pipe

if i have missed anything ask & i can tell you i've been working on suzuki quadracers for over 20 years
