Post 94' Rm 125

Hey guys,

long time no see.

Have been busy doing my pre voc course for fitting and turning.

I've been doing some work on the ol beast and wanted to ask a couple of questions,

1. Ive just changed my clutch plates with EBC redline plates i got em off my mate for 20 bucks, there were only 7 in the pack so i left one of the old plates on there, will it be ok?

2. I didnt buy new springs for the clutch because they are 45 dollars for 5, the old springs should be ok right?

3. I'm trying to decide whether to tear down the triple clamp and rear linkage setup without a torque wrench, if i just do it up fairly tight, ride it then check tightness and if its loose tighten it again, til i get my hands on a torque wrench?

4. My clutch basket has grooves worn in the sides of the metal flanges, what is the advantage of filing them down and how much more life will i get out of the basket?

5. I bought a new chain RK520mx my sprocket looks fairly worn but its not hooked, im thinking replace it before i whack on my new chain? or will it be ok?

Thanks guys, looking forward to your respones

As far as the plates and the spring go check the manual and see what the specs are for it. T

The clutch basket, I have heard that by filing down the grooves it can actually make it worse alot quicker than if you just leave them and it will wear much quicker or even break.

Pictures would help for the basket and the sprocket .

Clamp and linkage I don't really know I would say you should be ok for a temporary type of thing but it definitely needs to be torqued

Hmmm, after closer inspection the sprocket in my humble opinion does not need replacing, id say around the teeth its worn down around 1.4mm so not really much of a problem there.

As for the clutch basket, id say its running close to the end of its life, being 14 years old i would expect that.

As for new pipes i have done some research, Either the FMF Fatty or the pro circuit factory works or platinum pipe will fit on my bike, the factory works will fit the 92 rm 125 but the flanges are in the same position for the bottom brackets, im just gunna whack on another flange where the original one is and mount it normally.

My rear disc rotor is dished, although to the eye it doesnt look it, using your fingers its a massive valley of death.

More to come and hopefully some pics

If you are going to swap the basket I would go with a billet basket it will cost a little bit more but will hold up better to the normal wear and tear I know hinson makes them but I'm sure there are other companies that make them as well. I've heard good things about both pipes I had the fmf on my 96 rm250 and on my current bike and they are better than stock, haven't ran a pro circuit personally but I hear good things. As for the rotor I would check out rockymountain.com and see what the ebc rotors are running. Never heard anything bad about ebc.

Cheers mate, ive been looking at the hinson and barnet clutch baskets, i also like the look of the wiseco ones. Although here in Australia the Hinson baskets alone are $500! the pressure plates are $450 and a clutch kit is $350!

I might leave the basket for a bit as im on limited funds atm and my budget scrap funds are going towards a new spoke kit and new rear tire (michelin ac10).
