nooooo! thats not true!

In general, this is false.

However, there are some instances where it is true. The FMF pipe for the Tecate-4 was just a re-bent Tecate-3 pipe. Hardly any R&D went into it and it really didn't show case the engine on the T-4. I found that a stock pipe with the FMF Silencer actually made better power than the full FMF system. I believe there are Dyno sheets backing this up.

I have also heard that pipes on the newer 2 strokes where actually pretty good so in less you were wanting to change the riding style of the bike (hi-rev vs. low-end) or you are really messing with the flow (porting or big bore) the stock pipes are probably just fine.

Remember, just cause its shiny doesn't mean its fast.
