Default have a problem???

this might be long.

got an 86 250r. frame is cracked. a guy posted locally saying he has a 85 frame. cool. we went and picked it up. This was before i know as much as i do now.

Well the frame is not the same. the down bar for the front motor mount is different. has the 2 sides rather than 1 bar. And the rear suspension is different. it sits in the swing arm and mounts to the frame in a forward slant. NOT like the way the 86 does. the 86 has the dog bones on time and mounts almost straight if not rear a little bit.

So what frame do i have??

also how can you tell if its a 500 or a 250 frame?

the 86 is a full running quad. just bad frame. is it possible to swap it into the other frame we have? the other frame does have swing arm and everything. just gonna change the bars. brakes and hubs. but like i said we cant get the bottom mount to go through.

its spaced like 1/2in more forward on the frame than the 86 one we have.

yea it could be. we have been looking at how to do that. so yea it can be fixed. just trying to get away from having to buy a good welder in order to do that. I have a flux core welder but doesnt make good welds. at least not good engouh.

so we tried to get a good frame. thought we did but the frame is different and just trying to figure it out.

Its either a '91-'92 250 frame or a 500 frame... a 500 frame would be obviously larger than your 250..

im gonna have to measure to see the difference then.

what about the motor setups. If it is a 250 frame is it too much of a pain in the ass to get the 86 motor in it?

The swap can be done,I ran into the same problem with my lt250r. After all work was done to get the motor running( crank seals and bearing, reeds gaskets carb boot ect) my first ride the frame broke near the front down tube.I swapped everything out and it was not a big deal just time consuming,I own air tools but did everything by hand, plan on at least a saterday and a 6 pack. Look at the positive side you will know the machine that much better!

itr sounds like you have a 91-91 lt250r, I would look for another frame for the 85-86 its just a big pain in the ass to swap/change everything to accomondate the 85-86 engine.
Also, I do not know where your frame is cracked/broken, but you can get some pipe about the same diameter so that the pipe fits over the frame pipe, then weld it on.

My frame i swapped you can have for free.It has been repaired and I have not interest in fixing it seeing i got a extra frame with the quad I bought. It needs work from someone who knows how to do fab work ect.Its at work in the metal pile and will not be there long till it meets its maker.
