| this is a good idea for my 86. i cant start it for shit either but it has all original electronics.I just order a brand new ricky stator and coil and cap.I hope this works but why after time would you need to mess with the timing.Something must be going wrong!!!My manual just shows the notch on the timing plate lined up.It dont say anything about setting the timing nad how would u time a 2 stroke engine.

| The engine is completely rebuilt, having had the stator replaced. The timing is done thru the slots on the stator plate. They allow you to advance and retard the timing to set the power for lower or higher RPM. Every combustion engine made be it 2 or 4 stroke must be timed. 2-strokes are generally easier due to the flywheel key but are still adjustable if the stator has slots. |

| Kane, mine would also kickback as well. What I found out is that my idle jet was too small. I upped the jetting a couple of sizes and starting was much easier. But can you tell me more details on advancing/retarding the timing? I hear ya on the instep. Stupid me first tried to start it with sneakers. It hurt like hell, but I had a cool pimp step when I'd walk. -Mark

| the only things I know how to time are my old DT250, which has points instead of a CDI. Talk about a pain in the ass...you have to pull the plug, spin the engine till its on the compression stroke and the piston becomes a certain distance from the top of the plug hole, and then adjust the points so that they just barely start to close at that given point of crankshaft rotation. I have no idea what you would go by on a bike with just a pickup and the stator coils.

| on the stater assem there is 2 lines that line up but the screw that hold the stater inplace are on slides to make ajustments maybee your screws loosen up or like mine the keyway sheared in 2 oem wants you to line up the lines mine was all the way conterclockwise and kicked back 4 out of 6 times |

| Keys fine, I'd always check something like that before posting a question of this nature. I'm gonna try the idle jet. If I blip the throttle just a tad when kicking it starts instantly, so thats likely what it is. I'm currently 2 degrees counter and it kicks regardless of its position. |
