Talking 86 Problem Finally Resolved!!!!!!!!Thank God!!!!

Wow about time.I went crazy with this one but refused to give up.Well after numerous tear downs i gave in to see if the piston and rings were ok...But the reed petal of the center one of the 5 petal designs had snapped off.I had blown a petal of the reed petals.It could of been a number of causes but i am not taking any chances.The compression seems to be a little lower than i though.Its is 145ish.So i am sending the head to 1DIRRACING for a port and polish job and having a matched piston made for it.Best news of all was she is on the standard bore size and the bottom end seemed to be really tight.Looks like a recent complete rebuild was done not long ago.So when i get it all togather i will keep you all updated!!!!And thanks everyone for the ideas.Like i had said i checked it over and over and was planning to pull the head off last to check the reeds and piston and rings.So i guess after all it wont be that bad...I guess the new stator and coil will come in handy!!!!

Yeah the only reason i replaced the electrical 1st was because when it 1st died in the woods i had melted stator wires near the exhaust pipe.I replaced all the electrical and then towed it around the neighborhood and it still wouldnt start.So if i had to guess i would say that due to lack of spark caused by the shorted wiring i probably flouded the shit outta it and the caused a nice backfire sucking in the center reed petal.After replacing the electrical and tearing into the carbs 3 times and still no fuel something was definatel destroyed after the wiring problem.i then noticed the carbs were forcing the fuel outta the back of the carb instead of sucking it into the cyclinder.So i also noticed a drop in compression.After talking to Will over at 1DIRRACING i realized 145 was on the low side of the compression scale for a 250.170 to 175ish was were i shoulda been.So i pulled it apart and sure enough.A destroyed reed petal.Its funny how simple a 2 stroke engine is but a small plastice valva can cause such a pain in the azzzz!!!!LOL and thanks guys ill be back in track in a couple weeks!!!

yeah, that sounds skeery to me. I just checked my reeds a few weeks ago when I was cleaning my carbs.

We had a problem with a T3 that had a bad reed. It caused a major loss of power, but it was only little cracks in the reed and very small pieces missing from it. I think the compression is still fine in that motor.

we had a ATC250R with a broken piston skirt and it ran perfect. We ended up killing it but it was still a good motor even when it was over heating and ready to blow up, you just let it sit and the crank it back up again.

The reeds were a year old but something definately went wrong.The #3 reed petal in the center of the 5 petal design snapped completely off at the base.It happened right after i revved it to hell and roosted a mean powerband shot from stand still....Its off to 1DIR to be looked at and then all redone!!!I cant wait!!!Will is awesome and stands behind his products so im sure it will be silly when all done!!!
