Question 89 lt250r cold copression

how much compression should this thing have.my brothers quad is giving him a hard time starting and we ran a compression test cold and got about 100psi.im not sure if that is good or not??im wondering if its time for some rings.or is there a search option where i could ck some posts im sure its been brought up before.

compression will vary on several differnt factors like elevation ,temps ,how new your rings are,stuff like that. for the most part your gonna be over 130+ to be normal im thinking its definitly time for a rebuild if your only getting 100psi ,thats very low
if its under 120psi its time to call wiseco for a topend kit! get the WHOLE topend kit w/new piston,dont just rering it ,its not worth the possibility of dropping a skirt and causing very bad engine damdge in a months time ,you never know theres tiny cracks on it you cant see and the extra 50$ for the piston is a great cheap insurance my friend!

I agree, if your going to spend the time tearing it down you should replace everything and do it right. Also be sure to replace the thrust washers for your top end bearing. They have a tendency to crack.

yep...... replace everything you touch when youi do a topend.... thats what i always do... reringing is a half assed stupid ass hillbilly way of band aiding a problem and being a cheap ass... this is an expensive hobby.. get used to it....
