| When I bought my 86 LT it had the same problem. Well my buddy had the same problem and I bought it after he blew it up. Can't really tell you what the problem is though. I completely rebuilt my motor (top and bottom) and when I got it back together now it starts 1st or 2nd kick. I do know that my petcock valve is bad and I have to make sure if I am not riding that the gas is shut off or it floods the carb then it is a real bitch to start. Probably not much help but I have had the same problems before.

| I would check your carb adjustment. See if your float is a little up. The other thing to try is to crack the exhaust when you kick it. A buddy has a LT500 and that is his secret to starting that beast. But if you float is not adjusted then that could be your problem. You want them raised up a little less than a quarter inch. Besides that it could be compression and I will see if I can find the compression for the LT250 a buddy has a manual but I'll have to track him down.

| i've got a LT250 manual i can check if you'd like but it's for an 87. i'd say check the jetting. also check other easy no brainer stuff. could it be your just not putting enough balls behind it??? i know that my 4 stroke buddies can't start my banshee first kick. they are used to that thumb kick. anyway i'd say just try giving it more balls when your kicking it. |

| I think that might be the problem.I let it run untill it ran the carbs dry after i shut the fuel off and today i turned the fuel on and 2nd or 3rd kick and it fired right up... |

| That cool. I don't let my carbs run dry but I let it run for a little bit with the gas shut off and then kill it. It is kinda a pain but I am used to it.

| I use to have an '86 and what i did was pres down on the kickstarter slowly to it hits as far as it will go,then bring it up and it should click, then kick away and usually starts 1st kick. Now im getting a '92LT250 soon |

| When i first go my 86 i had the exact same prob you have a bad reed. the sucky thing about that is that you have to pull the cylinder of to replace it so you might as well get a new piston will you have the cylinder off or at least ne rings. |

| i have an 86 and i recently had a simular problem and what i did was take off the bottom bowl of the carb and take off the metal "U" shpaed flange and bend the metal tab flat, (don't lose the smal spring), and tanke out the pin and make sure it is clean, after you putit back together let the gas fill up the bowl for a sec. after i did this she started up 1 or 2 kicks every time..... also 2 stokes are different and require you to give them some gas when kicking, not like a 4storke, so give it some gas and kick it... |

| 2 stroke that are hard to start but run fine. Need the carb cleaned the pilot jet is clogged most of the time . The pilot jet aids in starting and up to quarter throttle so if it runs bad off the idle or won't start clean or change the pilot jet. |
