i have been having problems with my 85 lt250, when i start it, it seems to idle fine but when i start from first or give it any kind of load it gets real doggy and will stall. Once it has stalled it is very hard to get started. Even if i get it out of first it is very hard to get into the powerband and in 5th and 6th the quad dosent have enough power to excelerate. now ive checked my carb and it is fine, when i took off my jug the piston and rings look fine also the only thing i have found is that the reeds were not tightened all the way and were wobbling around. I was wondering if this could be the source of my problem, and if not does anyone have an idea what is?

are you sure the carb is fine??? sound like a jetting problem to me. whats the plug look like???

plug looks normal, a little carbon but fine

well carbon on the plug usually means your running rich. that or you've ben letting it "load up" i'd say drop down one size on your main and and give it a try. i'm betting that you too rich.

when i had my lt250 there was some seal broke leting gear oil in the crank case,it was doing the same thing an i couldnt figure it out untill i finaly took it to a shop and thats what they told me was wrong about $300 later it was fixed

Oil in the crank case eh... i have that problem, i dont know if it is gear oil though. Do you remember what seal was broken?

no, its been a few years and to many parts broken ago so i'm not sure which one it was, but i can tell your why i sold it! a buddy of mine came over while i was gone and was going to ride it and put a tank of UNmixed fuel an rode it, well you know what happend next
