Default Kehin Carbs for my 86LT (HELP)

Whats up fellas.Heres goes nothing.I have been posting about my new 86 250 quadracer on what to do and what not to do.So what i am gonna do b4 spending cash foolishly is use what i have available and go from there.I have posted about the carbs that came with her that are brand new ,,maybe used once but never finished jetting correctly. So they were handed over to me in the box when i bought the quad. They are Keihin carbs set uo by Sudco Racing part #KE 016-167 description 38 PWK ..From what ive read they are 38 mm Keihins ..Question #1 are they any good.As ar as i can see id say there kick ass.2.What reeds should i go with. The reeds will be my next reasonable purchase to go with the carbs. And the main ???is how the hell am i going to know how to jet these things..The only thing i have to get is a new reed set up...I already have a new fmf fatty gold series and fmf silencer on her.It has a K&N air filter mounted in the stock air box with lid.Help guys i want to set this thing up soon and want to fully understand what im doing first..Im in no rush cause im still getting her ready for the woods.Only have ridden her in neighborhood and all i can say is i think this 250 will really kick ass when i set her up....

I have a 38mm keihin air stryker carb on my trx250r and that thing rocks. As for the exact jet to use, im not sure you'll have to play with it a little bit.Every setup is different. Jetting a carb is really easy. Take your float bowl cover off(bottom of carb)and you'll see the main in there. Use a screwdriver and itll come right out. The easiest way for me or anyone else to help you with your jetting # would be to find out what jet # is in it now(# will be on the jet) and how your quad is acting as well as what your plug looks like.

As far as your reeds, I'm going to try out those G3 reeds myself. They seem to be the setup to go with. If you wait another week Ill be able to tell you all about how they are with the trx250R.

What motomark said was right. Start with the jet you have in your old carb now and go from there. I would also run without the airbox lid for more flow. which will affect the jetting too. As for reeds I really can't help you there because I have boyseen in my lt that I need to change.

oh yeah i'm not sure what size carb is on your LT now but if the 38 is bigger whicjh i'm guessing it is. the stock air box probably won't work with it. your probably gonna have to get a clamp on k&n for it

I have a 38 mm Keihin PJ on my 87 LT250R, it is a great carb, but does not fit well in the reed cage boot, it lacks about 1/4 inch to fit in snuggly. It does fit great in the air box boot though. My local dealership told me to carefully shave a little out of my reed intake boot so the carb would fit better or to clamp it on the very edge of the boot so that it would work. I think that this may be my problem for a question I posed in another thread, need to seal that off very well to prevent it from sucking air!
Good luck!

They sell aftermarket intakes that are larger diameter and have plenty of room for your bigger carb. They sell on average for around $50. If your stock intake hose wont stretch for the carb you can take a blow dryer and heat it up and it will stretch out easier for you.
