| Yeah I bought a '85 lt 250 about three weeks ago and last week I took it to the sand up near Coos Bay OR. I checked the oil and water before I started ran it for three days but on the fourth day the quad seized up, or I thought thats what it did. I took it home and tore it apart as soo as I took the head off the piston moved freely. I took the clynider off anyways to go get it miked (sp) to see if it was warped of if it had been bored yet. Well I was sliding the piston up and down and it would get stuck and the bottome of the stroke. I put the quad in gear and rock it hard the iston would pop out and I could play with it again but as soon as I went to the bottom of the stroke it would stick. and the water was dried up to when I checked the radiator. Please tell me whats wrong the people I have talked to have no clue what is wrong with it, one guy said replace the bearings another the crank. looks like I will have to split the case either way. so I am going to take the motor out tomarrow and my dad has a friend who is a "2 stroke guru" But he might take a month to look at it. ![]() |

| I would say that you have a bad bearing in your crank but if you have to split your cases than you might as well rebuild the whole motor why you have it apart. Another thing is you don't know when the last time that crank was rebuilt. I just had mine rebuilt about a year and a half ago and they said it was probably factory. The crank will last for years after you get it rebuilt if you take care of it. It don't look like a bad quad just needs a little TLC. I noticed in one of the pics that the dome on the head looked pretty beat up too.

| Can you give me some idea of what to do when I rebuild it it like what parts to buy and I have been trying to decide how much to bore the cylinder over I was thinking of .040 with a Wiseco Piston. Should I get a aftermarket Crank too, or is the stock one good enough? I'm a newb to quads ![]() |

| If the crank is in good shape then just have it rebuilt thats what I did. Just buy all new bearings for your motor and look all the insides over to make sure everything is in good condition. What bore is your motor now. I would just bore it the next size up. For the LT I would go with a OEM piston. I have a wisco and prefer the OEM piston better. Then just get a gasket set and slap her back together. I would buy a gasket set off ebay they seem to be a little cheaper than the dealer.

| Well I dropped it off at a mechanics house he said give him a few days before he can look at it but I will find out the problem |

| I talked to the mechanic who has my motor. he said one of the two counter balance screws fell out so he will fix that and he gave me a list of stuff to replace 1. Fiber/Steel clutch plates 2.Water pump gear )plastic 3.Gasket and seals kit So tell me whats the best of those products and I will go buy them and get my quad back together, I will go buy new carbon fiber reeds too. and If I have enough I will buy a new fmf nickel pipe |

| I put a KG Clutch Factory in my 87 LT250R, it works sweet! http://www.kgclutchfactory.com/ They are fair priced and I think they are a good qaulity clutch (they were also recommended by a guy who races locally), they make a kit for the 85 and 86 qaudracers, anyone with 87 or up has to buy everything seperately. Good Luck! |

| Well I dont think I will bore it right now since I wont seem to get the gains I thought I would and the cylinder is fine. I'll get it together and depending on cash flow get a new head, pipe, and reeds. what are good reeds I looked for a new cage but I cant find one for my year model |

As for a new reed cage, you might be able to find a used one on ebay from a machine that is being parted out or check with your local dealer or http://www.suzukipart.com/ ,however, I don't think that 85 or 86 had an actual reed cage like the later years, I believe that those year reeds are located in the intake port of the cylinder head. If you check out the last link I gave you and put in the year and type of your quad and look under the cylinder schematics you will see what I mean. Good Luck! |
