Default Clutch Queston

I own a 85 lt205r and when it idles i can hear a clunking noise, i think that i hear this noise from the stator side, but when i pull in the clutch it goes away. Any idea of what this could be? And could it have anything to do with my quad being so laggy out of first?

It could also be a bent plate.

im going to have to agree with the other guys that its a clutch problem. As to exactly what youll have to take it apart and inspect it.
and yes if your having trouble in first your clutch is mosly likely the problem.

If you are taking the clutch all the way apart make sure you have some parts handy---a new clutch cover gasket at minimum in case it is something simple to fix that way you can get it right back together!
If you go so far as to remove the inner hub you should buy a new splined lockwasher (holds the nut to the inner hub as the nut and clutch assembly spin in the same direction.
Just wanted to let you know, also if you remove the inner hub, it helps to have an extra set of hands without the clutch grabbit tool so you don't mar it up and have to replace it before it needs to be.
Also remember to bleed you radiator system properly after you put it back together so your quad doesn't over heat and cause severe damage.
Good luck!
