Default lt250 rotating assemble problems

Hello,
This is my first post and I have some problems. I own a 86 250r and while I was riding it last week it started making some noises and died. I took the cylinder jug off and discovered the cylinder had deep grooves on it as well as the piston. When I try to turn the motor over I can turn it about 95 percent in either direction but I can't do a complete revolution. I had read in another post that the balancer bolts had come loose. I guess the motor has to be torn apart to find the problem. My question is how difficult are these to rebuild and how much does a rebuild run on these...including piston, seal , bearings etc.?Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Mike

was the entire piston still there?? kinda sounds to me like you have a chucnk of piston stuck in the bottome end. check it out to make sure that a piece didn;t break off. if it did i have an easy fix for it

yes the entire piston was there, it is the skirt that was all chewed up, it actually broke off the tab at the bottom of the cylinder sleeve.I found one piece of metal, looks like a washer. How much play should there be at the big end of the rod (side to side)? You can see that whatever it was had been smacking around inside and left marks. I don't know if I should tear the whole thing apart or if there is a simple fix here.
Thanks for the help.

you probably have a piece of that cyl in the bottome end
take the engien outta thre frame. then fil the bottom end with mixed gas and rotate teh crank shaft. this wil flaot out any metal shards
then dump out the gas
do this a few times

also while you dumping the gas out lookinside and see if you can see the piece thats holding you back. if you can get some long needlw nose pliers or siomething and pull it out. then float the bottome end out one more time with mix gas and put it back together.

I just wanted to let you know what I discovered. There are some round shims that go on each side of the connecting rod and the inside of the piston, for some reason one of these broke loose and not olny caused the piston to destroy the inside of the cylinder but is keeping it from rotate fully. I most likely can pull the motor and get the piece out. I am wondering if I will be able to get all the metal out of the inside or is it possible that something could still be damaged. Everything spins freely at this point until it hits the piece below.......I just bought the new suzuki z400 and have someone that wants to buy my bike.I am trying not to put a ton of money into this bike although I don't want to screw the guy.I had asked previously about the big end of the rod and how much side to side play there should be. I guess that is my biggest concern. I appreciate the advice.
