Default LT230!!....SORRY A 4 poke ?...

, sorry guys...BUT IT'S NOT MINE!! i know it's a four poke question, but my friend just got a lt230 and it was running fine for about 20 mins then we parked it for about 3 hours and it wouldn't start, it's not getting any spark at all, it's not the plug i think it might be the coil? is there anyway we could find this out for sure b/4 going out and buying one? And i was also wondering, should my lt250r kick the shit outta the 230 like it does?..the 230 isn't near it anywhere in a drag race.... , from start to finish i'm kickin his ass..

The same thing happened with my ds80. You can take the coil to some atv & dirtbike shops or dealers and have them test it.

I've had 3 lt230s and on 2 of them I had problems with the wires melting on the motor or exhaust so check to make sure that didnt happen.

You really need a multimeter to test out to find out if the coil is shot. And yes your 250 is going to walk all over the 230. 4-strokes back in the day don't have anywhere near the power that todays 4-strokes have. Unless he does a lot of work which I am not sure there is much he can do to it except nitrous you are going to beat him all day long, unless you pop a tire or foul a plug but I think you still have a pretty good chance at winning.

we didn't even happen to think about looking at that, he just bought it and it had been setting for about 3 years, or atleast it looks it, he rode it for about 20 mins so that could have melted it, well i'll suggest that to him

If you have an amp tester, test the wire that goes to the coil coming from the stator. If that has power its not the stator. Its most likely the coil.

^i'd say do that, and if they say its good, then it might be the wire that comes out of the coil and goes to the spark plug. Don't test the coil yourself though, most of the time its not accurite.

If it was sitting for that long then yeah the stator is a greater possibility than a melted wire.
