Default Link vs no-link

Has anyone ever switched from a linkage style swing arm to a no-link/directly connected to the shock style swing arm?

I am mulling over the idea of building a Chromoly swinger for my T-4 and utilizing a different carrier (Banshee Possibly). This would open up my axle/hub/carrier options.

The Linkage on my existing set up has always been a source of constant maintenance and bearing replacement. I am wondering how well it would work just connecting the shock directly to the swinger and eliminate the linkage all together.

Thanks for the input!
