Alright, I've recently purchased an '94- CR500R, it's in good condition an runs strong and clean, I have however read people recommending 2 mods as necessary for these machines, the first being a PWK 39mm carb to replace the so-so stock PJ one. the next mod is a CDI off an '94 CR250. anyone done these mods to theire own CR500 that can tell me the benefits?

84-86 were the fast years, they had the short rod wich is now unavailable.i agree with the carb but have not sure of the cdi deal.do some head mods and some porting.stock pipe is the best prforming pipe for cr500s!.eric gorr is a very established cr500 motor specialist.go to cr500riders.com for some good info, tons of good stuff there.

If Im not mistken, I believe service honda uses the 01 cr250 ignition in its remake of the cr500. You might want to check if it is compatible. If it is its probably the best mod you can do to that big 1 lunger

Service honda uses the CDI from a newer CR250 but they use different flywheels that's actually heavier than the stock 500 flywheel (atleast that's what I've read) both the cdi and the flywheel supposedly smooths out the power of the big smoker, but I don't want that, I already got a bike that delivers smooth power by the bucketloads and that's my XR650R...

I've got the FMF Gnarly goldseries mated to a Powercore silencer on the CR, and I must admit I love the mid-range hit it delivers, but I wonder of swapping the carb is worth the $$? porting is out of the question since there is basicly no-one here in norway who knows how to port properly...

Ok, but does the cr250 stator and flywheel work? If so, it wont be smooth lol. It'll rip your damn arms off lol.

The pwk is a much better carb than the pj. IMO its easier to tune and throttle response is much better.
