Talking tire cutting???

Hey does anyone know were you can get a cheap tire knife or a redneck trick to trim off unwanted knobbies? I saw a quad with everyother row of knobbies trimmed off i think it looks hot, was wondering if it hooks up better also. what u think???

My experience with cuttting off knobs always resulted in less traction, but I guess a different tire on different terrain you could have different results... I used a pair of pliars and a razor blade to remove a majority of the knobs(pull up on the knob while you cut it)... then I lightly buffed the remaining knob away with a wire wheel on my angle grinder... It leaves a smooth buffed surface and looks like the knobs were never there... I have used tire grooving irons before but its alot easier to mess up... and end up with a ugly tire..

Maybe Eviltwin can drop in on this one. He gave Rajun Cajun good info on what tool to use.
Can't remember though.

I've never done this on tires but for rubber hoses and plastic I have a knife that I heat with a propane torch. After that, cuts like butter.

pick up a set of horse hoove trimmers. They work really slick and it doesn't take anytime at all to do a tire.
The tires that have every other row removed are for better acceleration, I've also seen every other knob removed to help clean out the tires.

I used a fine wire wheel... a course one is a lil too aggressive for clean results...

Thats what I did to mine and traction suffered... although the loss in lateral traction made it much easier to pitch around corners...

Ok fella's heres how you do it get a stubby razor scraper, lots of new razor blades and a good pair of pliers I shaved a front max completely smooth for my drag trike. All I did was grab a nob with the pliers and carefully cut through the nob wile pulling with the pliers, the first couple of nobs will slice like butter but then it's time for a new blade, keep in mind my tire was mounted and inflated at the time I shaved it .Also don't try to shave every little bit off with the blade because your going to have to grind it anyway to give it a smooth finish I used 80 grit on a grinder here's a pic.
