Default Masterlink Tool

Does anyone know if they make a tool to put new masterlinks on/off. And is there a rule of thumb for how tight to tighten the chain on quads and dirt bikes. Thanks

I've never tried putting a new masterlink on, but shouldn't a chainbreaker work for that?

I've never used a tool just usually a pair or needle nose plyers or something to snap it on. It's not easy to do but once you do it a couple times it gets easy. when tightening it usually I like to have about 1" total up and down movement in the chain. There is a spec to this in a manual I am sure but that is what I go by I like my chain a little tight.

A chain breaker is for breaking of links in a chain. When you buy a new chain it comes with extra links you use the chainbreaker to remove what you don't need. I usually us a cutting wheel to shorten my chain.

Good luck

Pliar work too, but if you happen to have a chainbreaker and the link is being a whore to snap back together, it kinda comes in handy. I also like to do my chain up a little bit tighter, but I think Banshee's right on the approximately 1 inch of play.

I just use a flatblade screwdriver for the masterlink and tap it with my hand putting it on or taking it off

they sell a clamp for o-ring chains. it presses the master link together so its easier to install the clip.

yes they do sell a master link clip installer. all it is, is a pair of pliers that has one side of the jaw ground down lower than the other side. but any pair of pliers or needle nose will work.
