Default turkey bay ohv at LBL

5 of us took a all day ride at the turkey bay ohv at LBL (land between the lakes) saturday and it was one of the funnest places to ride I've ever been to. it was about a 2 hr drive there and was only $15 a person. and the guy at the hut that we signed the papers and payed an stuff was pretty cool. he said "just do the speed limit in the marked areas and the parking lot and camp areas, stay on the marked trails and stay out of the lake with the bikes, but when you hit the trails its WFO" no joke.

there was 2 banshees, my 250r, a yfz450, ds 650 baja, and a cr 250 (spare bike). we rode hard all day and didnt really have any big problems. I hit a big ass pot hole early on my R and it caused my trusty holeshot tire to go flat. and it was about 2 miles back to the truck. and by the time I got there the back left tire was already off the bead. I ended up riding the rest the day on some spare wheels we brought. some little 18in razar mx tires on 8in wheels. I bet i didnt have 2 inches of clearence under my skid plate, but the worked awesome in the trails and it was fun.

the trails at this place have to be some of the best ones I ever been to. there was a bunch off 4x4 jeeps and trucks and stuff out there too in the trails. theres like 2 or 3 "main" trails that loop around the entire park and they are like high speed easy trails with lots of ups and downs and rolling jumps and really fun but they was dusty as shit. then theres like tons of trails branching off from the main trails and its almost hard to decide which one to take. this place is rock heaven though. some of the harder trails where nothing but rutted out rock beds and gullys going up and down hills with mud holes scattered everywhere, fun stuff. and let me tell ya, if you like hill climbs this place has got em. they are hidden pretty good out there and you gotta find em though. but I found some that were way to steep for me to try, like straight up vertical at the top. its the kind that you set at the bottom of looking up at and all you can think is, if I try this and make one little booboo at the top, how much is it gonna cost to fix my bike? lol. and then theres trails that run right beside the water, probably like 5 or 6 miles long just beside the water. and its like nothing but just tiny pea gravel. its one the funnest places there to ride.

and heres some pics of my R with the little bity rear tires I rode with all day. I have to say though, for being 18in mx style tires I did pretty damn good with em in some rough rocky trails. they have like brand new tread and them things hooked up awesome. and it made the power and throttle response seem instant, like I just punched the throttle as quick as I could and it would just rev and throw dirt like nothin, and it handled really good to very easy to spin around and get to some really tight trails. and I really didint have much trouble with the low ground clearance. I only got stuck one time in this really rutted hill climb and was like this big gully and was kinda hard to stay out of the ruts and my skid plate dug in. and in the really really rocky trails I had to go a little slower cause I didnt want to rip my skid plate off.

I went there back on Dec. 3 with some friends I work with and it is awesome. The temperature was in the 20's when we got there at 8 a.m. It was cold but there was hardly any body there which made it even better. The water from the mud holes was freezing to my jacket and pants. I had on 2 pair of socks and I couldn't feel my toes. We are going back on April 22 and I hope it is warmer. It is 2 1/2 hr. drive for me, but it is well worth it. We ran the main loop as fast as possible which is about 6 miles long. We got into some of the tighter trails, which I prefer. if you want something different, I highly recommend it, but call ahead before you go. Sometimes they close the trails if it has rained too much.

lbl stands for land between the lakes. if you look on the map is like in the south western tip of kentucky, really close to the tennessee border.
