| well there isn't any "setting" to it! take your bolw off, use a punch to remove the pin that holds the floats inbetween the two posts. the needel and seat are right below it. pull the needel out and check the tip (pointed part) for wear marks, should look like a polished ring around the needel. if it is, go to a shop and get two new ones. i don't know about the seat in your carbs but if it is rounded it is just held in by o-rings, so just pull it out(sometimes they come out hard). as for the mixing i can't help you out there i run about a 18:1, it works for me!

| Another way of telling if your gas/oil mixture is too rich or carb. problems is the presence of black drool dripping from your expansion chamber. I read an article one time that I will try to find again written by factory race mechanics on tuning carbs. and oil mixtures for motorcross and race applications. I remember one guy stating that 99.9% of two stroke applications below 500cc would perform on a 32:1 ratio. That's what I been running in my TRX250R for a couple of months now and it screams. Wait a minute!!!!!!!! What's wrong with Honda guys???? I love Honda's, I loved them even more when 250R's were current production. But I do try to live on a little place called reality, and a banshee on it's worst day should have owned that 300ex. Chris

| Guys, I have to agree with some of this. I have been less than impressed with the sport quads that Honda has produced since 1989. I just sit here and look at pictures of the new TRX 450R and think "what if?" Can you imagine that quad in a two stroke version. O well back to reality........ I have no Complaints with my 1986 "R" I am dusting nearly every quad that has stepped up to the plate, even a couple of banshee's that were stock or very little mod's if any. Now just so I don't make any of you Yamaha guys mad I will admit in order to put those banshee boys back on the trailer I won't mention the amount of time, blood, sweat, and money that I have put into my "R". This is the same "R" that I am threatening this winter to tear down and do a complete restore on. Engine is perfect right now, strongest R I have ever built, but cosmetics (paint, plastic) is starting to show it's age. Chris

| i being a big yamaha man would have to go along with some of the stuff your saying there Shade! i know a kid with a $25,000 250R and while almost anything with that much money in it should be able to beat a banshee, he walks all over highly mod. shees all day. another thing is, i would have to say that any one of us would be pretty hard pressed to find a motor that was as strong as a honda, things are bullit proof. i had a big red as a kid, it would get so hot it would set right up, let it cool and take off again, i rode that 3-wheeler for just about 5 months like that, now thats a strong motor! but all in all i think i am sticking with the good ol' white and blue!

| I know what you mean, when I was young I had a 1980 model Honda 110 three wheeler that I drove the crap out of for almost 6 years and never done a thing to it except general maintence. During hunting season here which is almost 6 months out of the year I use a Honda 450 Foreman 4X4 to get me in and out of the woods. I have had that thing up to the gas tank many times in creeks and it just keeps on getting up. Don't get me wrong, I came real close to buying a banshee about 6 months ago to go along with my 250R, but wound up having to buy a new truck and my budget wouldn't let me have both. Funny thing, I would have allot more toys than I have now if it wasn't for that dang budget thing. Chris

| Oh, I wanted to show you guys something cool. Go to the racing forum and look and the string I started that says "I think I found a Home" I posted a picture from back in 1987 of one of my Tecate's that I use to race and ride. Damn!!!!! That was a sweet trike. The Tecate was a 1984 model. Chris

| i've ridden and owned hondas, yamahas, and a suzuki. if oyu ask me yamaha and honda are the top dogs in the ATV field. it's a chevy vs ford, coke vs pepsi kind of rivalry. i have to say that i support team blue. granted a 250R is a great quad (been out of production since '89' still can't build em better) and by no means will a banshee even compare on a MX track. comparing the two for moto cross is like oranges and apples. the banshee is not a MX quad never has been never will be (thats part of the banshees demise as of 04). the only place to compare the two is in the sand. a banshee is undeafeatable in the sand. i ride dunes in michigan in the dunes there are 3 fast quads banshees, "R"'s, and zillas. the problem with honda is that they gave up so easliy on the 250r. but seems to me that for a quad they gave up on so easily they sure do use that reputation to this day. ie: the 400ex was called the next 250r and now the 450r is the same thing. people remember that before the 400ex came out honda was nothing in the sport quad world. between the years of 1989 and 1999 there was no match what so ever for yamaha. i personally lost a lot of respect in honda for not producing a competitve sport quad for 10 years. so yes i'm a big big fan of the 250r in both 3 and 4 wheel variations. but a honda fan i am not. like i said before "HAS HONDA BUILT A QUAD SINCE 1989? IF SO I HAVEN'T NOTICED." and until the debut of the new 450r nobody else had noticed either. ok i'm ready for a counter attack from the ride red guys so let hear it!! |
