Default newbie pissed off @ local shop !!!

here we go !
i have a 87 250r bone stock. i kinda new to the atv scene but not an idiot.
put hole in piston. take it to local shop and they quoated me 815.00 they tell me 2 weeks and it will be done.2 wks go by and i stop by and they tell me 2 more weeks. a mounth later its done so exicted. get it home put it in. first problem its stuck in a gear. shifter clicks but no change in gear. start it up real quick starts on 3 kick. shut it down and make sure nothing is leaking. well not so lucky there is antifreeze leaking out of the jug. i know there was a tooth on the clutch basket broke if they didnt replace that would that be the shifting problem. any advice on how i should handle this problem and they also over charged me 300.00 . sooooo pissssssed!!!

well.... that sucks.... sorry bro.... but depending on what exactly they fixed..... you might not have been overcharged..... i have had rebuilds cost from 300 to 1100.... its pricy..... pull out your parts reciept from the shop and list what they are claiming.... hours, parts, exc....... then im sure somebody will jump in and tell you exactly what they should have charged you! that way you will get a diffenitave answer............

wow...first advice, never ever do business with that shop again...antifreeze coming out of the jug is going to be either your head gasket 9 times out of 10...and if it wont change gears thats not your clutch, its something in the transmission...if its slipping or wont dissengage thats your clutch...id go raise hell at that garage...there coulndt have been $200 in parts the rest labor....theres a lot of people around that if had all the parts in hand could do a top end on a 250r in less then an hour

damn that sucks dude. that is why I never..........ever.........take my bikes to any shop to have em worked on enless its something that I cant do myself and dont have the tools to fix it or something. I do all my own motor work and order my own parts. its not that hard to work on these bikes if you have a good repair manual to go by, and most important a good set of tools and a clean place to work on em.

Sorry to hear that bro. That is why I do all my own work. Also that is why they call them stealerships. But before you go postal on them take the bike back and demand to talk to the shop owner. Tell him what is wrong with the bike and that it was not a problem before they put their hands on the bike. Also tell them they need to fix their mistake and you will refuse to pay for their mistake. If they don't help you out take them to small claims and get your money back plus more. Tell the shop owner you intend to take him to small claims court and it might change his tune. Then buy a basic set of metric tools, service manual and learn about your bike. A two stroke minus splitting the cases are basic machines to work on. Also when you do your own work you know it's getting done. If they are a big shop contact the BBB and report the problem and if the shop is a member they will help solve the problem.

If its a new top end: Piston $95, Bore/hone $40, Install labor $120 (max).
Should not be over 260 installed. However, I have fallen in this pit before. Since then I do Almost all of my own work including the topends, have the Shop bore to the piston size then hone ($40). Do the rest my self. With all the right tools, on a nice day I do this in about 2 hours.....I take my time.

Amen to that! Also you never should have paid them or taken the bike without starting it and making sure it was fine.

like one of the guys said before take your bike back to the shop ask them to fix the issuse if they dont wanna make a suggestion about small claims court. now unless the guy is a very rich man he will be kissing your toes on this one.. it would cost him more in lawyer and court cost then it would be just to fix your machine i know this first hand from a automobile repair shop.. had a tranny put in my mothers car and it shifted like crap. told the guy im takin him to court and wamo i got a bran new tranny..

also its not hard to do a top end i did my first one a few weeks ago on my banshee what a breeze that was.
