Default Is it possible???????????????

That my water pump not working and my quad over heating caused it to lose compression??

My quad overheated today after maybe a 10 minute ride through the woods and then down a road in 4th and 5th gear. I got back to the house and it was puking coolant on my pipe out of the overflow tube.

I tested my compression a while back and it was low I was going to redo the top end soon. now Im wondering if the water pump not working caused my compression to drop because of overheating

when I first got the quad It overheated on me a time or two but it was 98+ degrees out when it happened. Its 71 here now theres no way thats to hot to ride for 10 min

I started it without the radiator cap off a few weeks ago and let it warm up but due to the vibrations at higher than idle rpm I couldnt tell if it was flowing or not .

What should I do, drain the radiator and rip the water pump cover off and see if the impellar is spinning when I kick it over?

well from what i know the banshee isnt known to bust the waterpumps too often, but if you use it for trail riding it is a good idea to get a high flow impeller.

i think your going to have to replace the seals on the impeller shaft... there letting the fluid right by...

What are the mods to your bike and elevation? What jets are you using?

It is possible that you were running a tad lean before and with the temperature drop you're experiencing now it is running leaner still. This will definately cause your bike to overheat and your top-end won't last long either.

I've heard of a few cases of the stock impeller giving problems, it's easy to check, just drain the coolant and take the waterpump cover off. Crank it over and see if it turns.

If the seals on the shaft were leaking the coolant would mix with the oil in the gearcase. Check the oil on the dipstick to see if it is milky or coffee coloured.

wrong, wrong, and wrong. Banshee water pump impellers are junk. They break and fall apart all the time. They dont last long in there due to being made of plastic. The coolant destorys them mighty fast. Due your self a favor and put a billit impeller in there. They move more coolant and dont break. As for the over heating causeing compression lose. Yes it can, when it over heats, it can warp the aluminum and cause compression leakage. And if the headgasket is shot, it will alsl leak compression.

ohh alright, guess i was wrong with that one, but well i guess i just havent heard of many people having problems with them, least not as many as with the lt's.

I had a head gasket leak before, which caused a massive power loss (even at low throttle) white smoke, and coolant pissing out the tube going to the ground out of overflow reservoir. Does this sound like your condition? You may have had low compression before the overheating problem. Did you check it before you had problems w/ overheating?

what is your current static compression ?sounds the impeller took a shit liek they always do and created what is called a seizure and this will certainly make your topend fuct in no time ,whewn a motor has a seizure especially at high rpms that a banshee is capable of its never a good thing

Ok sorry I havent been on in a while but I ripped the top end apart (well the heads off and cylinders come off tomorrow) I pulled the water pump cover and It turned fine when I kicked it over Ill check the case oil tomorrow for milkyness. Just before I drained the coolant and ripped it apart I checked compression again and it was still at 100 lbs on both sides. The pistons were a dark brown color on top nothing major to report. Cylinder walls felt ok just dragging a fingernail across it.
Possibly a little scoring . Im rippin it apart and taking it to my mechanic wed hoping to have all parts by friday afternoon so I can head up to The atlanta area in michigan for the long weekend.

Yes I think compression was at 100 psi when it overheated I rode it a lil bit around the yard with the compression low. It always started first or second kick and had plenty of power so I figured it was ok. Would a radiator cap cause overheating or overflow?
