Default No spark or lights

Hi, i'm new to the forum and the site so forgive me if this type of question has been posted. I have a 98 Shee that I just did a complete motor rebuild on. Once I got it all broken in I took it to the dunes for a weekend. Well it wouldn't start. Found that a couple of my ignition wires pulled apart.

I bought this used and i think the person that owned it before me changed the ignition for some reason and did a half ass job at making the new connections as they pulled apart. Fixed that on site and it was running great.

As I took off in 3rd gear it stalled out.....nothing....dead. Well towed it back to the truck and started checking the obvious things. Found that I had no spark. Also, I turned the headlights on and when I kick it over my headlights also don't "flicker" like they should when you kick the bike over. My initial thought here is either the stator or a broken flywheel key. Can anyone give me any other ideas. I'm trying to avoid what I see a lot of people do, and that is start replacing parts until they find the right one. Can someone give me some troubleshooting ideas to try. I have a Clymers the only thing it has is instructions on how to check everything with a volt meter, which I neither have or know how to use anyway so I'm looking for some other suggestions. Sorry for the long read.

Start With Theobvious If You Had Loose Connections I Would Start Back There. Then Pull The Left Side Cover Off To Make Sure That You Did Not Shear The Key!!! When You Reinstalled The Flywheel Did You Reset The Gap On The Pick Up From The Trigger? Thats The Raised Part Of The Flywheel That Tells The Coils When To Fire.. Gap Should Be About .18 Im Pretty Sure... Could Also Be The Stator Is Bad You Will Have To Ohm It Out

Thanks, no I didn't reset the gap on the pickup. How do I adjust it? Funny that it ran fine for a bit, then died. How would I go about "ohm'ing out" the stator?
