what to look for in a shee??

well im gonna look at a banshee sunday & i wanted to no some things i should look for...he says the throttle sticks so im thinkin the carbs need to be cleaned.
he said its a '98 he thinks...has cool head, reeds & pipes thats about it...

throttle could be panic rev crank seals might be out ,, beware,,,shake the rear end,, the word yamaha on the side is a go reason to run lmao

carbs could be dirty, but id go ahead and replace the throttle cable as well. also look at the a-arm bushings the yamaha ones are junk and if thats a 98 then thier probably shot if original. i would also set it on a stand to get the rear wheels off the ground and shake the shit out of the rear end, you know just to make sure everything is tight ( especially the swing arm bolt there is no way to grease it from the outside and usually gets over looked during regular maint.) other than that id say use your best judgment. if it dont feel right dont buy it.

he probably told you the throttle sticks so you won't ride it . ride it any way. you can always hit the kill switch. listen for weird noises and look for worn parts bushings, wheel bearings, chain, etc. but they make new parts everyday so your call.

ive been lookin at banshee for about 2 weeks now and havnt found one that really catches my eye.. out of the 10 or so ive went to look at.. ive only road one the rest the people said. o its outta gas.. or o the carbs are leakin.. or the throttle sticks and im not sure why..... the one i did ride the clutch slipped a little and he wanted to much for it.. out of all the ones ive seen i told the people to the best of my knowledge how to fix there bikes up. ive gotten 1 call back from a guy.. put new gaskets on the lower right side.. cleaned the carbs and did somthing with the clutch. all things i told him he needs to take alook at....

when your look just give it a once or twice over... things i always look at before even getting on to start it up..
1 look to make sure the rear frame is lined up with the axle.. make sure its not bent.. while im lookin there i check the axle nut.
2 look at the arms look for dents bends and cracks..
3 then i take a look at the gas line.. i know its a easy fix but still if its that easy why doesnt the owner take care of it.. a cracked gas line is a sine of neglect.
4 then i pop the seat off and check the airbox.. weather there is a lid or not.. if thereis no lid i check the filter out.. see if i can find any traces of mud or water.... after all that i slap the seat back on..
5 jump on.. see if it goes in and out of nuetral easily..
6 if so i do a quick check of the breaks. take a glance over the levers.. clutch front break..
7 and then i start it.. kick it slow the first time.. see if there is any compression.. i kicked one over really hard and there was nothin there and hurt my foot.. easy kick first.. then i try to get it started..
8 if and when it starts take it for a spin..

seems like alot but if im gonna spend 2,000 on somthing i wanna know its not gonna fall apart on the first ride..

yeah.. im still lookin for one.. not to many good deals around here. a few stock ones but they want 2500 for a 01 kinda high if you ask me..
