Question Weird neutral noises...

I've got some odd noises coming out of my 'shee when its running in neutral. Kind of like gears that are kind of catching but not quite meshed. And that doesn't make sense cuz the gears aren't supposed to be meshing in neutral right??

Oh it doesn't matter if i have the clutch lever pulled in or not either. If I put it in gear the noise goes away and its fine through all the gears. Went for a ride yesterday, when i came back it wouldn't make the noise in neutral but now its back today.

Any ideas?? This is kinda bugging me because I did a bunch of tranny work a couple years ago and i just did the top end And I don't really want to wreck the new gaskets...

Gaskets are cheap, as are fluids compared to a tranny.
Pull the side cover off and remove all the clutch plates. If all the plates are fine...(looking for a shattered plate, but...normally it stops making noise when you let the clutch lever out)...

It's tranny, or lower end bearings. I'm sure the noise won't go away on it's own....and...it only gets more expensive from here. Price of gaskets and fluid is nothing compared to the cost of repair if it doesn't get fixed.

Always possible, Morph..but I think it would do that even when he put it in gear, instead of just when it's in neutral!!

Either way....it's gonna have to come apart!!

I pulled both side overs off last nightand checked it out. Clutch looks good. I put in a Vito's clutch not that long ago, Basket nut was tight.

So, looks like she's coming apart. I'll order gaskets tomorrow.

Thanks guys.
