Default banshee clutch advice!

Ok, I have been needing to buy a clutch for a long time now, I finially did buy one, from rjatv off ebay, my banshee has stock carbs, pro circuit pipes, shaved head, stock timing, burned up clutch lol, the clutch basket moves back and forth on the gear, but the 'fingers' dont have any grooves in them at all. What im wondering is should i use the stronger springs?..is it worth it?....ive heard of ppl doing the 3 strong, 3 stock..and that sounds fine..but i like the clutch lever to be easy to pull in, i just wanna know if it being harder to pull is going to be worth the extra grab. And is there ne thing i can do to my clutch basket? other than buy a new one?..any help/advice will be very appreciated! Thanks.

there are rubber cushions behind the basket that cushion the basket to the gear.
If you have noticible play in the basket/gear assembly, the only thing you can do is replace the basket. I have never heard of anyone successfully reusing a stock basket once the rivets were drilled/hammered out.

You're going to trash that brand new clutch in no time with a basket/bushings that worn.
See what kind of deal RJ can get you on a new basket. You don't need a Hinson or high dollar basket. I have a cheap, no name Magnum basket and after 2 years of drag racing abuse, it still looks AWESOME.....

If I were you, for your mods, use 3 HD springs and 3 stock springs. Alternate them when you put them in. Pickup an ez pull lever while you're at it...they're an arm saver.

Different springs will not fix your worn cushion issue, please replace the basket.

Here's pics of my basket that's been taking a beating.... You can barely see the discoloration from the fingers, and barely feel any type of groove whatsoever....a stocker would've been trashed by now with my setup.

Ok, Ill ask him how much a basket will cost, then ill try and buy an inner hub too, The way I typed it did make me sound like i thought the different springs would help the freeplay in the basket, lol but i didnt mean to, I just wasnt sure if I wanted to use all of the stronger springs or not. Thanks for the advice!

Inner and outer hubs are cheap, 50 bucks from the dealer. After two years, I replaced mine...and they still looked good so I got spares.

Pretty much any aftermarket billet basket will be fine for you, don't get caught up in the hype and price of the high dollar ones.

Not trying to sound like a jerk, so don't take it that way, but I probably have 3 times the HP on my bike as you're running right now. The pictures speak for themselves... (Please don't take that the wrong way, just a reference!!!)

I agree with you dave on the "dont get cought up in the higher priced baskets" to a point, i heard, now this it was i heard...lol...and you know how that goes...but i heard the better baskets cussions hold up better verses the cheaper brands. That true? i am still running my stocker and have no exp with aftermarket baskets. But the only brand i sell is the wiseco's for $179.99, little pricey i agree, but it is what it is, when it's time for me to get one i will prolly try to find the cheapest brand i can if the cussiona are all the same. Have you heard this also?

I agree with that 100%. I can tell you the cushions that came with my cheap Magnum basket are holding up just fine. When I had it all torn down, I tried to wiggle my basket/gear, both on the bike and off. Solid.

Kinda goes without saying, if you have cheapo cushions, good ones will make a world of difference. I'm thinking this magnum basket comes with pretty good ones!

One day, when I'm loaded (so...never bascially...LOL) I'll get the spring loaded Hinson basket so I don't have to worry about smoking the cushions. Until then, my basket is doing just fine...

Well I know the hinson cushions are junk.. they burn up VERY fast. I had them in my shee for 2 yrs and one year it didn't even get ridden but 2 hours and some dyno time.. I'm using UPP cushions now. we'll see how long they last.

I agree with the baskets though.. they all seem to be pretty good. The only one that stands out for the price is the barnett basket. It uses the steel tabs over the fingers. I dont know if its better or not.. but atleast your seeing something for price difference. I could see them lasting longer then a billet basket, as long as them tabs dont fail.

I know the UPP cushions are good, I'm pretty sure the Wiseco cushions are good too...

Looks ok to me, never heard of it but that doesnt mean it wont work. The price looks pretty good though. $50.00 cheaper then a wiseco from me.
