wont shift rite

the motor is apart and before i put it back together i am trying to get it to shift rite.but it will shift from1-3 and stop and i take the shaft with the gears on them and turn the sprockets on it,put it back in and then i only have 4-6.for some reason i cant get it to work where i have 1-6.its the only thing stoping me from putting the motor back together.and i never took the sprockets off the shafts,took them out asembled because it looked like mud and stead of oil under them.i checked the manual and its use less.if you have any ideas please let know. thanks

my neighbor's shee wont shift above third unless its started, are you starting the motor then you test it?

I'm thinking you're fine, you really need to turn the motor to shift those higher gears.
I had the same concern till I came to that conclusion. Let's see what others have to say.

on my 250r i can shift it all the way up to 6th by rocking it back and forth or move the sprockets around

yea man ur fine. my friends shee does the same exact thing.. is that the motor out of the shee you got from me?

thanks guy.yeah the motor is apart,and only has the gears and crank in it and didnt want to put the cases back together if there was a problem.

yeah its the same.but every thing is on a 02 frame know.
