Default How hard is rebuilding top end

I have an 03 banshee and was wondering how hard rebuilding the top end was. I will probably buy it from rjatv (ron jeremy atv) and try and do it myself. Any tips or threads i could read to help me out would be appreciated.

it's not hard at all,if you have any kind of mechanical knowledge you will be fine. shop around for prices, there are some good deals on top end kits out there.

you'll be fine. Just take your time if you haven't done it before, make sure you get the rings seated correctly and don't skimp on the oil while you're putting the piston into the cylinder. You want to make sure the piston and cylinder walls are plenty lubricated while you're putting it together. All the oil will do is burn off when you get it going.

I had only rebuilt my blasters top end once, then I hopped up to a banshee and I just finished a port and polish job which is a fresh top end job without the new pistons basically. I'm 14 and I did that. It's not too big of a deal

Not hard at all, definately grab a Clymer Manual and read up. Or atleast download the Banshee Manual from our Manual Forum.

Pretty much remove everything in you way.. Plastics, Tank, Pipes, Carbs intakes.
10 nuts remove the head..
8 nuts at the base remove the cylinders.
Remove circlips, push out the wrispin.
Off comes the piston. You'll see a bearing sitting in the crank rod.
Pull that out too & do the same to the other piston.

Put it back together the way you disasembled it. It's that simple with a few details involved.
Take pictures in case you forget what goes where.. And there's always E2S & we'll help you step by step!

make sure you put some rags in between the cases and rod before you remove the clips from the piston/ wrist pins. Those damn things have a mind of their own.

Spend $20 and get a clymer or chilton. It will guide you step by step and even has pictures and little tips. For example, put a rags down around your rods covering up the case so that when you pop out the circlips, they don't accidently fall down into your case. Also the book has all the torque specs and not to mention information on future repairs. Get a book! Also you ought to think about porting your cylinders while you have them off getting bored. Check out Home That guy will have you up and running in as little as two weeks. Kevin is a stand up guy with excellent costumer service, and hard to beat prices.
