Default degree key

Hello, my name is dustin, i am new to this site but have a decent amount of knowledge about engines, i take a powersports class at a vocational school so i work on atv's, motorcycles, etc everyday. anyway im thinking of adding a degree key to my yamaha blaster and was wondering the pro's and cons of doing this, i've heared from many people that thekey makes the engine run hot, is this true, i emailed vitos about it and they said that most ppl don't re-jet and thats why it runs hot. i don't know if would make a difference but i'll list everything i allready done to my blaster, its bored 10 over, has fmf pipe, kn filter, reed spacer, power reeds, vitos jet kit and intake. this forum looks pretty good hopefully i can find some answers, thanks, dustin.

hey welcome to the site Dustin. there are a ton of people willing to help ya out so i'll be one of the first.

the degree key well i persnally run with one, (vitos +4) i didn't have to rejet for just adding the key, what i did have to do is use a small file to clean up the key itself because it didn't fit perfectly from vitos. they are effective they give ya little more low end grunt. im not sure its that noticable but its there so its gotta be doing something! a down side to running an offset key is that you have a greater chance of shearing the key off. alternate methods would be to slot the holes on your stator, or buy an adjustable one. its upto you theres about a $100 difference if im not mistaken. my mods are similar to yours, so if you've got any questions ask away!

I ran the vitos key on my blaster and lasted all of 2 rides before it sheared off. Just slot the stock stator plate. That's what I did and it works just as well. Plus I can change it back to stock a lot easier than with a advance key.

thanks for the responses. ajh you say u didn't notice that much of any improvement, hmm well if thats the case idk if i'll put it on, see i allready have it but never had a flywheel puller, but now since i go to a vocational school i got access to one, but if it isn't gonna do anything i might sell it at school.

keep the puller, you never know when you may need it. i've got 4 roller tool boxes full of tools i got something for everything. and i'd recommend installing the degree key just don't expect huge gains.

that is the one reason why it shears, i recommend installing it, not everyone has problems with it shearing off, and even if for some shit luck that it does your not out that much money, yes performance gains arent much but every little HPs add up when your smoken other bikes at the hill

ya, but i don't wanna be tearing up the test hill at silver lake when it decides to shread, plus the performance gain isn't anything major.
