Default what oil?

lately i have been running the 2 stoke oil made for quads and bikes. but i was wondering would it be okay to run oil made for outboard boat motors like the tc-w3 or whatever it is? i am wondering because i can buy that stuff a whole lot cheaper than i can the other stuff like the honda gn-2 or the yamaha 2 stoke oil.
Also can i just run regular 10-30 atv oil in the bottom end?

well its not advised, but it will work I guess. for the tranny oil i'd suggest running some atf type f, its what I use in my blaster and the stuff is like 2$ a quart and sometimes cheaper depending on what brand you get.

well im not sure of all the brands, but I know supertech makes some, and also coastal and and one more brand that I cant think off. ive tried all 3 and I didnt see any difference, its all red and all lasted about the same time before it turned real dark and grey. i'd say just find the cheapest brand of ATF type F and it will work fine. and they say to change it more often then the other 2 stroke tranny specific oils, but I just change mine when it turns real black.

I run and have run Coastal ATF type F for the past 5 years in all my smokers. I change it every other ride. I have left it in for a third ride and can tell it needs a changing.

Not sure how I feel about using atf in my tranny. 2 stroke on the other hand, I seen a mythbuster episode a while back on oils. They basically said all the factory oils were the bottom of the barrel junk. There was one that was good, I believe it was Honda but don't quote me on that one. I have heard alot of local people around praising Golden Spectro. Mythbuster stated the best 2 strokes were Quick Silver and Castrol. They discussed anti shearing properties with 10/30's, all the testing they did showed no difference in break down between standard and oil with all the anti shearing and other special junk in it. Some do provide better protection, Mobil 1 full synthetic is the best you can use for motor oil, Castrol Syntec is 2, and standard Castrol came in 3. I recently started using the Golden Spectro, it is concentrated so you use less. It seams to be good, it does not smoke as much and I do not get that oil build up on the tip of the pipe and it does not have as harsh of smell as other 2 strokes. The tranny I use Mobil 1, it seams to actually let the power reach the ground faster. Shifting effort also decreased a little. Well sorry for such a long reply guys.

so the census is ATF in the tranny, and dont use outboard oil? i dont really want to have to mess with changing the tranny oil every couple of rides, is that a must in smokers regardless of what you use? IMO i would think ATF would need changed less than oil because it is made for that type of application, and abuse through the clutch and everything.

I second the mobil 1, its all I use in EVERY motor I have. The yamaha, the shitsubishi, the audi and even the old p.o.s. jeep strangler get it!

I posted in another thread about clutch drag during cold weather, synthetic oil's consistancy does not change like conventional oil acording to temp. It also last alot longer and prevents internal corrosion better than anyother conventioal oil.
