Default collapsed piston

hey guys, i haven't been on in awhile but i have a question. i have a 2001 blaster and it stopped running awhile back, well i finally got around to check it out and found that it has a collapsed piston, the rings are froze. the good news though is the cylinder looks fine has no gouchs or scrapes. the cylinder measures 66.20 on top and 66.39 on bottom, now my question is should i have it bored or just get a 10 over piston and put it back together? my dad says we should get it bored just to make sure the piston will fit since he thinks that its worn and really is stock size but wear and tear wore it to 66.2, but i say its bored 10 over. so whats your opinion?

also if we just get a 10 over piston and do not bore it what would we have to do to the cylinder to get it ready for the new piston and rings? would we have to hone it? and if we just hone it would we have to chamfer the ports? thats all the questions i have for now im sure more will arise.

well never mind. me and my dad went out and looked at the cylinder and piston and just decided to have it bored out. so we bought a 40 over piston off ebay and found a place local to bore the jug for $65, is that a fair price? so hopefully by the end of the month the blaster will be running again.

65 bucks aint a bad price for bore and hone. Just make sure you wait till you get that piston and take it to the shop with the cylinder so they get it right. Dont just tell them to bore it .040 over

you say that you have a collapsed piston, what are you meaning.
If the center of the piston is sagging than you have to much timing in the motor.
if the timing is adjustable than back off a few degrees if its fixed than the CDI might be going bad.
Just because they work doesn't mean correctly.

when i say collapsed i mean the top is down enough so the rings can not expand or move. the piston has literally been pushed down enough the the rings are froze. rsss396 i don't understand your last comment "Just because they work doesn't mean correctly." what do you mean? are you talking about the place that will bore my cylinder? anyway the timeing is stock so i hope nothing is wrong with that.

I referring to the cdi, it can work but sometimes timing curves can be off .

sounds like you just leaned it down to much, overheated the piston and stuck the rings.
