Default crankshaft installing question

Hello,

I'm currently rebuilding my brothers blaster, the previous owner had been riding without any oil, so the big end bearing was completely smoked and the crankshaft was completely blocked.

I bought a complete crankshaft kit from Wiseco on ebay (crankshaft, bearings, seals, gaskets, ...)

We installed the bearings by freezing them and heating up the engine cases.
I had to smoothly tap the crankshaft a couple of times with a plastic hammer, because it didn't just slide in to the bearing.

The cases are closed now and the crankshaft turns very good.
But it looks like the space between the crankshaft and the left casehalf is a little bigger then between the right side.

Some people told me it's ok as long as the crankshaft turns over normally.
Other told me to tap the crankshaft untill the space is equal on both sides.

But I'm a little affraid of tapping the crankshaft to much.

Whats the best thing to do ?

well it will only go in one way. the bearings have different inside diameter. i think the od is different also.make sure the side with the long wide slot is on the clutch side. other then that yoy are good to go. dont forget to line up the dots on the balancer and crank gear! dont forget to put that little ball back in the hole before you install the clutch push rod.

Usually if the gap is not equal the crank will bind in the bearings. Tap the crank with rod at BDC on the end needed to move more center. Place a piece of wood on the shaft and tap on the wood so you don't flatten the threads. Don't get crazy here but it shouldn't take but a few tap's. When it's equal space on both sides it should spin better. Also make sure the trans shifts through all the gears before you get it all back together and it won't shift.

Another thing you can do if the gap is bigger on the magneto side is cut a piece of brass tubing long enough to slip over the shaft and leave about 4 threads exposed. Then slide the tube over the shaft and use the magneto nut and washer to pull the crank equalling the gap.

Your better off hitting a crank with the rod at bottom dead center than top dead center. But the pulling method is better.
