Default No Silver Lake for me.......

I'm afraid my Blaster and I won't be able to make it to SL this year......
I took her out today and was actually riding normally when in a second the motor started making a metallic sound followed by a dead stop. I pushed it a 1/4 mile back to the garage and braced myself for bad news.
You have no idea how disappointing this is. I've planned this trip for months, spend lots of dough and countless hours getting her ready. It still turns over but is hard.
If there's a silver lining it's that it happened here and not somewhere on the dunes 9 hours from home!
I'm sorry guys.
I will rebuild harder faster better stronger you better believe it.

If the head looks wet it's tears

It's confirmed the lower rod bearing let go. The only bearing I couldn't replace without sending the crank out- figures. This is after less then an hour on a brand new custom $180 piston.
It gets worse. The jug is scored beyond repair. I can't put a new piston on a cylinder with marks I can feel. It's on it's 12th overbore and is officially a paper weight now.
Sorry Denny I know you put good work into it!
I don't know if the head is salvageable. Meth is funny with things that can be hot spots.
So I'm gonna have to swap in my spare crank, get my spare jug re-bored and and another piston kit. IDK peeps

The jug

Got anything for a 79' YZ400

BTW pro-lock clutch worked flawlessly with no slippage. I'm gonna give props in a new thread bro.

Yes...Silver Lake may be out of the question on that Blasty.
If Denny put some good hours into that cylinder, why dont you have it resleeved rather than getting a new jug?
I see that you need a new crank too, so rebuild it with the best bearrings yo can get.
So...You think that its the meth that caused this failure....

Seriously I don't think the meth itself had to do with it. I think 29 years of time and roughly double stock horsepower cause this catastrophic failure.
There are no sleaves available for this rare motor.

That sleeve does look paper thin, I did not know that you caould run them that thin....
I would contact L.A. Sleeve Co. & tallk to them about your problem. They advertise talking about being able to have or make any sleeve. They will be able to make you a custom sleeve for your application. It may be more expensive, butu then you will have plenty of bores left if this problem comes back inthe future....its worth a try!!!

Ya it's on it's last over bore + 4 more over bores This is a testament to how they did it in the oldskool. I have 2 spare cylinders on the shelf. The reasoning for such a large overbore is because it allows me to pick up trash cylinders off Ebay cheap. The one in the pix ran me $15. Next time around were goin the more sensable route with just a minimum overbore. Thanks for the info!
