They say you shouldn't mix cases.. I'm pretty sure it's weldable. Post a pic!

It depends on how bad the damage is. I'd try the JB weld trick or, in my case (no pun intended) my trusty Carquest version of it. Awhile back, I used that stuff on a crack in the back of the crankcase, and it passed the leak test. The previous owner of my left case also bashed out a chunk where the clutch lever return spring sits. Yeah, I just put some Carquest epoxy there too and it works fine.
On a side note, the engine I'm running in my machine is a 88/89/01 mix and match of parts. It's a good thing the Blaster parts are all interchangeable!

mixed cases aren't a good idea. I had to get a right side case and ended up taking the deck down 0.040's to get both of them level. Try to get it welded or find a matched set

Yes sorry, I should have mentioned that I do have matching cases from an '89 Blaster. But the internals are from mixed years. The manufacturers allow for enough tolerance in these production cases that different halves from different machines could be off enough to cause trouble. It's always best to get a complete set when it comes to the cases themselves.
