Default Hello all, Just purchased a Yz 250

Hi guys and girls.
This is my first post here but i am looking forward to many more. Hopefuly i can contribute to the site in some way.Anyhow, I am pretty miserable at the moment as my new ride has siezed up in the lower end! I am getting back into riding after braking my neck. I had a Cr500 that i just sold and it was great , i was been riding it for the last 6 months on trails, enduro, golf courses etc but i just bought a YZ250 for some Motox track action, The 500 is to big .

I got the bike 3 weeks ago and Its a long story but the bike was ment to have a total engine rebuild(top & bottom) and only 3 hours old. Well the bike is great and in very tidy condition for its age, Went hard and very crisp! All signs are good and everyone else was impressed with the bike. All af the sudden after about 2-3 hours more use the bottom end is siezed. I am not sure what happned but im up for some coin thats for sure. Whats the Average cost of a boottom end rebuild on yz250? Heaps!

The worst thing is that i am out of action for many mths untill i can afford the fix and my new bike will owe me way more than its worth.. AAAAAAGGGGGHHHH KILL ME NOW! Oh well Sorry if i sound like a big sook but I AM! hahaha

Peace yall,
Gringo

If it was a four stroke you'de still be accelerating right now lol....

You can ride on golf courses in australia? thats pretty cool

Anyways, it depends on what is all siezed, if its the crank, that should be about...$220-$300 American. My blaster crank was about $190 I think, not positive. Bearings and other things including a piston will total up to about another $150 - $200, depending on how bad it really is.

id start by splitting the case. buy a manual if you dont have one already and get ready to take it in the but! do it yourself to save alot of money even if you cant figure it outand have to have help, atleast youll have saved on some teardown that your local shop would have charged you for. plus itll help you learn about your motor,if that were a yzf 426 youd be pushing it off a cliff! dirtbike trannys especially yz trannys dont hold up as good as yamaha atv motors except raptor . cheer up
its not that big a deal atleast youll have a fun winter project

Thanx for the replies guys.

If it were a 4 stroke it would be costing a lot more money to fix. Dont get me wrong i love 4bangers, and its what i wanted to buy but they are just to expencive to fix and if you only have a budget of a few k then you will get a shitheap. I have had many aircooled 4bangers but i am not ready to aquire the new bread yet. 2 strokes take me back to my childhood when nothing matered but my yz80G (1982) hahah and when to be home for dinner lol.

We dont have any laws against twobangers in Australia yet and they are still pretty popular and cheap in comparison to the 4bangers. Its a great adrenilin rush to ride a good 250 or 500 2banger. My engine is going to the shop tomorow.. The mechanic is o mate of my boss,s and is very honest so i am not worried in that regard. I am more worried what Yamaha will want for tha parts, They wanted $30 for a single exhaust oring lol. Cost me nothing!!!

Anyhow,There is a Golfcourse that closed down not far from where i live and the cops were good enough to turn the other way when bikes rocked up so now there is about 100bikes there every weekend. Let me tell you Colfcourses make the best motx tracks!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Anyhow guys, Thanx again for responding. With a bit of luck i will be back in action 3-4 weeks from now ,Least now i will know the engine is sweet.

Peace all,
Gringo
