| i went riding today and i have felt a small decrease in power in the last couple of days so i jump this thing and when i land my bike sounds all fucked up. so i crank it back up to get back to the truck and just putted very slowly. then all of a sudden the tires lock up and it dies. so i put it in neutral and go to kick it over and BAM the kicker won't move. if i play with it by hand it will move down but doesn't feel like compression. i took the stator cover off and tried to spin the motor over by hand and it wouldn't budge the bad thing is i this is the 3rd tank of gas that has been through it since i bought it. the guy i bought it from said that the entire motor had been redone not just the topend. i really don't think he was lieing to me. but i very seriously doubt the guy who redid the motor will warranty it since he didn't do the work for me well any ideas? i think i will just have to pull the motor off and take it apart myself. pretty shitty since i just got the damn thing anybody ever had their motor lock up because of a topend problem? btw its a 98 banshee Last edited by joshv5.0; 11-07-2004 at 09:05 PM. |

| well i just pulled the plugs again to give them a good inspection ( the other time i looked i was pissed off and on the side of a trail in the woods) the one from the left cylinder has metal shavings on it and may have gone a little lean. also noticed a tear in the carb boot that goes to the boost bottle on that side. here's a pic ![]() ![]() |

| Thats not good. A tear in the boot like that will definatly cause you some issues. I would say time for a top end and if the piston shattered like I think it did your looking at needing clean out the bottom end. Sucks but blowing a hole in the case is a lot worse. If you have any questions just let me know Good Luck

| I had mine lock up, everything except the transmission and the clutch is broke in the engine. So I know how you feel. I have had mine about three months, and the engine locked up. What ratio were you mixing your gas and oil at? |

| if you can play with it and get it to spin i'd put monney on a broken skirt. thats most likely your problem. hell your gonna have to pull the engine out and blow that thing out really good plus float it out with gas. but i'm probably jumping to conclusions. i say take the top end off and see what you have. oh yeah i'm not sure what premix you run or anything but alot of guys on here including me run amsoil dominator at 50:1 and it works great |

I reckon those plugs are way lean, probably the carb boot like you mentioned. (That's why I refuse to fit a boost bottle, they put stress on the boot) Get yourself a Clymers manual if you don't have one and then open up the topend to see what the sum total of the damage is. You might be lucky! Let us know, lots of people here willing to give advice! Make sure you check for air leaks once you're done and also let us know your mods and what main jets you have in the carbs. Last edited by J.J.; 11-08-2004 at 09:02 AM. |
