both my lt250 and blaster ran soo much faster and stronger b4 they blew up...got rid of the blaster and bought a banshee and it ran great started 1st kick even on cold days and after a nice 5 hour trailer ride from new jersey to my house in some cold rain...then i tore it apart cause i was bored and now its gone lol

I also heard 2 strokes break all the time ex: fouling spark plugs, blowing up,engine bogging. My bike is a 1989 YZ250 thats been bored out to a 280 its got an answer silencer, mikuni carb and racing clutch. Do you think its even worth riding at all because I am pretty much guaranteed not to like it because im not a guy that would rather spend more time fixing refueling and working on his bike than riding it. My buddy used to have a YZ250 and he went through 3 spark plugs just trying to start the stupid thing. I also heard once there bored out they blow up alot easier.

Are 2 strokes really this ridiculous because ive heard it from alot of motorheads that 2 strokes are just unreliable and gas guzzlers and the boys at my cousins shop were willing to make a $500 bet with me that ill literally put more hours on it fixing it than ill be riding it and there really confident that there correct.

I hope this isnt true so I dont look like an idiot for buying a 2 stroke.

is it a stocker or modified? i would say if you run a stock configuration
it could last many years, with the proper maintenance, if it has been modded
you will be rebuilding it at least once a year,if you ride every day.
high compression is an engine killer over time
i ran an 85 yz 250 for 6 years i had a procircuit pipe and kn filter
i never had any problems with the engine, and always stayed at 180 psi comp. it always started, when i got it out in the spring i put a new sparkin bolt in and usually not touch ittill the next year.and besides that it would start at -30 degrees my new4 wheeler 05 450r 4 stroker wont hardly start when its +30 degrees,TWO STROKES RULE HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!!

on eof the biggest points in maintenence that i always stress is keeping the air filter very clean and well oiled.tiny particles of dust and and dirt can destroy a topend so quick!!!i clean mine most every dirty dusty ride.also it is very possibe to get at least a years worth of riding on the same topend.i would asvise to get a compression tester though..just check periodically.say every month.this can avoid more expense when it come to rebuild time.(less damage).

All bikes can blow up...
All bikes need maintenance...
All bikes need proper tuning...

2-strokes do use more fuel... However the added fuel and pre-mix costs are worth it in the long run compared to the engine maintenance and repair costs of a modern 4-stroke...

It sounds like they may be betting against your mechanical abilities more than anything...

All bike need maintenence....

roughly last year, i spent 45 hours doing mateinence to my 542 hours of riding.

now that mateinence consists of:

cleaning the bike in between motos, changing the sparkplug, changing the tranny oil, mic'ing the pressure plates and clutch fibers and springs, checking rad fluid, adjusting the chain, re-placing sprockets, changing the fork oil and seals, rebuilding the rear shock, greasing the swingarm and linkage. all these things i do because i race motocross and i want to keep the bike at it's best.

will you spend maybe 10 hours wrenching on your bike. depending on how quick you work.

if you want a bike that blows up, go buy a 450, there fast, but so unreliable, the pros on 450s rebuild their engine after every race, aslong as you take care of the 250 youll be fine

2 strokes only foul plugs a lot if u dont have them jetted right your friend must have a 450 and hes discouraging u from buying a 2 stroke because they are faster than his pos 450
