IT 175 top end problems

IF YOU HAVE A 77 . YOU NEED A 77 OR NEWER CYLINDER IT NEEDS TO HAVE THE CLUTCH CABLE BOSS ON THE BOTTOM . PISTON ...
The Piston Is Basically The Same . Sometimes They Make The Ports In The Pistons Skirt A Bit Different For What Ever They Had In Mind At Yamaha . To Change The Bikes Power Curve They Change The Port Timing Of The Rear Port Through The Piston .
Now Some Of The It Line They Changed The Port Sizes Around And The Rings Will Get Hung Up If You Try And Install A 8 Piston In A 81 As The It Jug Is Different . The Dt Wasnt Preformance Orianted Enough For Them To Use Up All The Cylinders Area With A Huge Set Of Ports . They Kept The Dt's Desighn Small Simple . So I Wouldnt Hesitate Swaping In Pistons As Far As Cylinders I Would Check Tand Make Shure The Cylinder Gaskets Are The Same Before Buying A Cylnder As Long As The Gaskets The Same The Cylinder Should Bolt Up Too .
My 2 Cents I Would Go Buy A Used Jug On Ebay For The Pennies Compared To Buying A New Cylinder
Last It 175 Cylinder I Bought Was 20 Bucks With Shipping It Had The Clutch Mount Damaged But Came With A Good Head + Piston. I Needed The Head . Cylinder Needs To Scrapped It Needs Welding And Was Pryed Off By A Gorilla .. So Make Shure You Can See It As Pictured ..
{i Have 2 77/78 Dt 175's In My Back Yard One Has The Pistons Rings Wasted Unshure Of The Damage Other Runs And Will Be Sold As Soon As I Get Around To It}the One That Doesnt Run Will Probably Get One Of My It 175 Cylinders I Have Exhaust From The It As Well .
Also The Blaster Piston Loooks Like It Would Be A Cheap Fix When You Cant Get Anny More It Pistons . You Can Usually Fit A Newer Piston In An Older Jug Just Not The Other Way Around . Or The Rings Will Catch On The Rear /side Transfer Ports . Yamaha Moved The Dowel Pins . On The It 175/250 , '80 On The 250 Then On The 490's In 83 ..
And Believe Me I Am A Neewbie Here ..

there i an entire top end on ebay that i am bidding on currently. Hope to get it back together soon. I bought the bike for 50 bucks a year ago. someone had stolen the carb and reed block off of it when i bought it. bought everything online to get it going and thrashed it a couple of times last year running weak and it still was a fun bike!!! anyway been buying up parts for the last six months to try to make it nice, headlight,side covers, kicker etc etc. if i get what i need from this ebay auction hope to be riding this summer providing the bone graft in my neck heals like its supposed to.(fingers crossed) will try to post some pics soon.
