the yz 490 was notoriously unreliable they heat siezed until you jet high enough to constantly foul plugs. the yz 490 was a washing machine ,its definitly a cool idea though. i love big air cooled power i have a rm 500 engine kickin around.
got two complete cr480 dirtbikes ive thought about a 480trx but i like my 250r too much to hack it up.

1 of the reasons the yz was unreliable is because of its too high compression ratio but with a little head work they can be very reliable

exactly ..for an eays fix all yo uneed is 2 base gaskets and it gives the needed clearance at the head

thanx for thetip on two base gaskets , i was gonna try and use aviation fuel and octane booster the outlaw . that and a pint of drygas . i ran that on my last tank of my it250 78 , poped therivets loose on thesilencer and it ran wicked. i have 2 490 projects here, just need somesmall parts for he one , main crank bearings and seals and a head . the other is justgaskets, and i can buy a complete bike that runs from a freind...
maye another thread . mqake some noize with that ok..
