| Well it all depends on the pre-mix you use to figure what ratio you should mix at. If your running a good sythnetic premix, like amsoil or klotz, 40:1 maybe even 50:1 is doable. As for things to watch out for, the brake system, look into upgrading the brakes, cause I hear that those can really suck!

| My personal experience has been with lame cranks. I replaced the crank on my 02 twice with stockers then bought a Hot Rod crank. Havent had the problem since. My other Blaster I simply bought a Hot Rod crank to begin with. Blasters have been notorious for the oil injection system failing since day one. I scripted many the bullitin for them. Dump it and get the block-off kit. Cheapest insurance there is. While some say the brakes are ok, I say they suck, period. One front always seems to lock up on you no matter how well you adjust them. And they squeek like a virgins first time when wet. The back are a pain in the ass period. They get all dirt-filled and stop working really easy. The pipe sucks. Get a Fatty or something else, but dump the stocker. I have the fatty and it is a very nice performing pipe for the price. The intake spacer and K+N jet kit are a decent performance upgrade. They really woke my Blaster up. 22" rears really added the speed and clearance too. Those are just for openers. Flattrack's store and knowledge and MaineExport too, they could really help you build a total screamer. |

| Thanks for the info. Ill tell my buddy what he needs to look out for. What company makes that block off kit your talking about. And with just a trinity full system for the mods is the machine forgiving enough to run 40:1 w/ castrol actevo semi sen? Thanks again for the info Aaron

| Let me reinforce what the guys said already and add a few things: Upgrade to Hydrauic brakes front and back. It's a tad pricey but VERY worth it.... I'd like to say I'm surprised that yamaha waited until '03 to switch over to hydraulics from the factory, but they cut a lot of corners on this quad to keep the price low. Oil injection block off. Vito's, Trenga and a handful of other companies make them. Premix 50:1 with a good sythetic. Get a TORS block off kit... some say not to bother if you're not going to be doing much tuning with the carb... I say screw that crap... having to deal with TORS just once in more than any human being should ever be subjected to. Before you go nuts upgrading for horsepower, consider upgrading suspension and handling. The new brakes is a great start. Then I would consider good aftermarket shocks even if you're just planning on using it as a trail machine. The stock Blaster shocks are WAY too stiff and the dampening is inadequate for the spring rate. If you want to race at all... or even do agressive trail riding or dunes... I'd go for wider A-arms and axle.

| I am glad to hear that we have another rider on our side. Good has prevailed once again!! I really liked my blaster and never had any problems other than the brakes. Well and og course I was way too big for it. I LOVE Suzuki, but now that I am a Banshee rider I am hard core YAMAHA. I am gonna ride blue for ever! oooops maybe I am a little one sided but thats just my thoughts as usual.

| This is a great site for Blaster info but another place I highly recommend is Project Blaster. www.projectblaster.com You friend will have ALL of his questions answered there, and as for the block off, you can do that at home without the stupid kit I'm working on my braking system right now, I'll let you know how it goes. |
