It's true. Just go to Yamaha's site and read the details. It's a 686cc engine (not 700) with EFI. The extra 26ccs come from a 2mm overbore piston.

the big bore 686 rappy motors have shown to be pretty competitive in the past ,but thats a high compression lighter big bore piston kit too.efi is a nice touch too . its seat height is now 1/8 higher than a yfz450 and a yfz feels low to me. also the trick aluminum frame is much better designed and supposedly corrects its poor geometery (we'll see) the bike is damn near the same weight though as it previously was . i guess we wont really know till a memebr on here rides one and gives a unbiased review

They really didn't change all that much. The biggest problem I see is the EFI. I just don't like the idea of EFI on a quad. Tiny piece of dirt gets in the system and now your clogged. I guess it is the same as a carb but carbs are easy to clean. I like to keep electical to a minimum.

Only time will tell how well they hold up, who knows what will happen...for all we know Yamaha could do a complete recall on the Raptor 700 for safety reasons. The video of it on yamaha's site did look pretty tight though...I'd like to ride one to see how well they ride.

I'm also skeptical about the aluminum frame holding up, but I'm sure Yamaha expects that this quad won't be punished as bad as most YFZs. I also think it's pathetic that Yamaha couldn't make the Raptor lighter even with an all-aluminum frame and a sad PLASTIC front bumper.

I think the EFI will be buggy for a couple of years until it's tested in the real world. I know I wouldn't want to own any of the first year 700Rs, but I'm all for FI on ATVs. The problem is that it took a while for FI to be perfected on streetbikes and some companies, such as Triumph, still haven't perfected it. It's hard to get the software dialed in on small displacement engines, and the light weight of cycles and ATVs can't disguise the glitches of the fuel curve like heavier vehicles, such as cars and trucks, can. This causes the power delivery to be jerky and harder to manage.

The photos of the frame on Yamaha's Europe site shows the frame to be steel & aluminum.( Front assembly & under the motor are steel. It has an aluminum backbone & subframe)
