Default Break in Period...

I've searched and found nothing. But anyway, I just installed Vito's Power Pistons, new bore & hone, and a new head. I cannot find the steps for the break in, if someone could post I would appreciate it. Thanks.

There are lots of ways to break in a piston and I am not sure what works best. I can say I have had probably 15 new sleds over the years and my banshee running no problems and only about 5 lbs compression loss. All my sleds have run perfect except for one which was because the carb was not adjusted correctly.

This is going to be very controversial and I do NOT guarantee any results for using this method of break in.

Most people tell you to run 1/4 throttle for so long then 1/2 throttle for so long then full throttle for so long. I started breaking in my sleds and banshee using a method that I read about on the internet some where. The method is to bring the bike right up to full throttle right out of the gate. This allows the piston to get seated in the cylinder and to break loose any burs that might still be in the cylinder. Basicly the idea behind this method is your rings are going to be stressed to the max when at full throttle. Which also means they are going to be expanding to the maximum. This allows the rings to make a nice seat in the cylinder and remove any small burs that might be left. Now if you think about if you only went 1/4 throttle out of the gate you rings will not have the same power to cleanly remove burs and make a clean seat. This could slightly damage your rings from hitting the small burs.

Like I said this has always worked for me but that is me and it might not work for everyone. I know a lot of people might not agree with this idea and thats fine and you have the right to your opinion and feel free to express that.

If you want a normal breakin method go to trinity racings website they have a tech tip on how to break in a motor.

Good luck

i break in my engines the way i'm gonna use them. i run them kinda hard for break in. i get it up to full throttle but i don;t hold it thre for long periods of time. go is right the faster you run to break it in the better and faster it will run. we had 2 blasters each broke in different ways. the one i broke in my way would dust my brothers that he broke in the 1/4-1/2-full way.

Yeah this works for me.

The only thing I will add is that I run a fairly rich (25:1 MINERAL OIL - NOT SYNTHETIC) fuel mix while I am doing it.

I have posted this information else were like ATVConnection and other places and I usually get one person that agrees and 100's that dont. I'm glad we have lots of intelegent people. Most people don't understand the mechanics behind this kind of breakin and go on about it being against the manufacturer warranty and yadda yadda yadda.

I am not a mechanic but have had to run in my fair share of bikes.i do not want to give the false indication this is "THE" method for breaking in your bike but this is what i found most affective.

Starting your bike after you have assembled it and got it up too temp(Bikes usually are hotter than usual at the first start up) and then letting it cool completely and then doing it once more before you take it on your first ride is a good way to help get the new parts incheck with everything else.

for your first ride you should Not athrottle past 1/2 and you should find some hard pack surfaces to run i your reconditioned ride.Try to avoid sandy areas and keep the bike moving so it receives good airflow.after a tank or two you can start to open it up a little bit but not push it to hard.

After that you should be able to ride it as you normally would.

Good luck

I just broke in the new blaster by keeping the stock injection system on and putting a lil bit of oil in the tank. Then pretty much just beat it with my fat ass. I didn't keep on full throttle for long periods of time. That thing can keep up pretty decent when we're trail riding now.
