I also have a PD stator plate set at +4.
To be honest, I don't feel any difference on the ol' ass dyno between 0 and +4, but, (so they say) there are 1 or 2 extra ponies gained with this mod.

IMO, too much advance can lead to pre-ignition which together with detonation in say, a high compression application with the wrong fuel, will quickly ruin your day.

The next time I have the flywheel cover off for some or other reason, I'm gonna back off the advance a bit, maybe to about +2 or so... Just to be safe.

Also, if I knew at the time of puchasing the PD, what I know now, I would have just modified the stock plate or shifted the pick-up coil, to do the same thing. All that bling is hidden behind a cover anyway. Live and learn....

Also, I'm dead set against a degree key, I don't know why these break, but I've read on a couple of forums that they do. (They are only supposed to index the flywheel to the shaft, and the taper fit is supposed to bear the torque, so no idea why these are breaking)

I am personally a fan of not dealing with the timing. Get a Dyna Ignition it will cost you like $350 but it will give you better spark and advance timing. If you get the computer link you can actually link up with the software they provide and change your power curve and timing. Just a thought

advance timing requires higher octane gas. all your doing is making it fire sooner in the rotation so you can burn the higher octane fuels becauser the high the octane teh slower it burns so you get a nice clean burn on the good fuels. also if you run higher compression you'll need even higher octane. if you didn't know now you do!! lol
