Post piston rings (yt 125)

Hey, its me again. i was wondering- are the piston rings supposed to be loose or tight around the piston . and if you know , what is the correct size in mm for the rings on a yt 125. the ones i have now are about 57mm but are loose on the piston. sorry if the questions seem stupid, but this is my first time taking off a cylinder.

anyone else see the new 2007 yamaha lineup, it sucks(no banshee or blaster), there's too many god damn raptors. i heard in a mag that they are going to start making a raptor 125(useless).

Rings will come loose when the cylinder is off, you line the end gaps up with the pins in the ring glands when you put it back togther and Compress the rings with your fingers, slide the cylinder over and your good to go, Should say what size the rings are on the top face of them, near the End, if there Stock they will say STD, if Oversized .50 .80 ect ect..

Yup thats about right, its a good idea to check the ring gap before fitting aswell, slide the ring the barrel and use your piston to push it into the barrel square, then use feeler gauges to measure the gap, it'll tell you in the manual what the gap should be. I know for my 100 cc engine the gap is about 0.12. If the gap is too small you can file a small amount of the end to increase the gap. It's very important that the gap is right, and that there is a gap, if the rings are too tight in the bore then this can cause majour problems.

Best bet is to get a service manual. Definetly check the ring end gap like veda sticks said. They still sell Banshees in Canada as 2007s just not in the US.
