Unhappy Yam DT 125 help.

Hello guyz
About 8 months ago i bought a 2nd hand Yamaha DT a 2000 model it started fine when i first got it then it became harder to start and wouldnt stay running unless the choke was out. We replaced the spark plug and that seemed to help for a short while but i took it down to a bit of open ground near my house recently and it was ok for about 10 mins when it stalled i tried to restart it and nothing happened.
So i havent been near in about 3 months then today i went out to see if it would boot over and no luck, i think there is oil in the can because when i first got the bike i would go up and down the drive. In the Haines manual it says that short journeys can cause a build up of oil in the can and to clear it you need to take it on a long journey. Since it wont even start now i cant do that does anyone know any way fixing this problem i dont not have alot of experience with engines or motobikes this is my first one.

Any help would be appreciated ta Craig.

Is the air filter in place and clean?Did you leave the fuel pet cock while not in use?You may need to clean the carburator as well. What does the spark plug look like?

The pet cock is the valve that shuts the fuel from the tank to the carb off.Follow the hose from the carb back to the tank you'll find it.

Unhappy

About 2/3 months ago we had out at the park and it running ok but there was alot of smoke then it cut out and we couldnt get it started again.
I was out in the garden all yesterday trying to get it started it would start but only when you cleaned the plug put it back it would start once then you would have to go through the whole cleaning process again.
The plug was replaced just recently so i dont think it is that but i mae be wrong.

Try another plug first.2strokes can be hard on plugs when things aren't right.

Took the air filter out and checked it today it was not broken nor was there any dirt in there plus it looked quite clean and oiled.
