Question Yz 490

I seem I have spotted a problem with the bike, I took the clutch cover off and was looking around in there to see if there where any metal grinding or anything, I go to move the bike and it is like it is in gear but when I took the cover off it was in neutral and when I try to put it in neutral the gear shifter just goes up and down without clicking in any gear do ya'll know what the problem could?
and I haven't put the cover back on it yet cause I ordered a clutch bearing for it.

Look behind/below the clutch basket and make sure that the shift shaft is fully engaging the shift cam on the shift drum. Sometimes the shaft pops out of place when you remove the cover and the spring sits against the retainer pin making it feel like the shaft is in place but actually isnt. You'll have to push with some light pressure to pop it back into place.
